Back in the day waiting a few hours in Basingstoke a few hours would be sound with various 50's passing plus the odd 33 and a few Spoons. I probably would have done a trip to Woking and back behind a 50.

Well unfortunately that wasn't an option for me, the only locomotive through the station was an ill sounding Freightliner 66! ;)
I didn't stay in the station longer than half an hour though :)

Oh no I wasn't being funny, I think that sounds great, I'm just saying sadly as Class 50s don't go through Basingstoke now I couldn't have done that :) It was an alright day thanks, I've had better, I've had worse.

No worries mate, didn't think you were being funny. Was gutted today, we had a Deltic in Lime Street on the new Platform 8 and I missed it both arriving and departing due to family commitments.

Ooh. Tuesday.

One more day until Glasgow. I shall post all of my units travelled on shortly after doing so. Also one more day until my brother is unbanned  he will be posting updates too.

SATURDAY 6TH JANUARY 2018:

Early (ish) start today got up just before eight and went over to Farnborough by car, here I caught the 0927 to Reading which was formed of 165106. This was a dud sadly but anything that will take me away from Farnborough is good enough for me! The point of this journey was to bash the GWR 387s, annoyingly however I found out they were on a Sunday service between Reading and Didcot :( so they were running hourly. I took dud HST power cars 43130 and 43165 to Didcot Parkway, taking 387154 back to Cholsey and travelling to Oxford on 165122 which was running the hourly Oxford - Didcot shuttle, only today most of them were extended to Reading. At Oxford we popped into M&S and my brother was horrified to see them selling out of date food (he told me he was considering phoning watchdog ) so we didn't buy anything, instead we caught 43155 and dud 43131 back to Reading. This train was full of noisy football fans so we went to the Quiet Carriage. The only people in here was a man with his son who looked about eight and a group of middle aged men with Irish accents. The latter were very noisy and rowdy, the little boy said to his dad "Don't they know this is the quiet carriage?" in an exasperated voice which made me smile to myself.

At Reading it seemed someone had had an unfortunate accident as there was an announcement saying "First aid to platform 10b urgently please," and a few hours later there were people in high vis jackets and the whole escalator was cordoned off.
I went into Costa to grab a drink but they'd stopped selling the gingerbread lattes I like (don't judge me I know most people hate them ) and grr the only things that they had on offer were the ice cold fruit things (not ideal for a freezing January day) or those icky disgusting creamy frostino cooler things, you know - the horrible milky things with sickly flavours like Belgian Chocolate or Mint Choc Chip...

So I bailed and took double electrostars 140 and 141 to Tilehurst, returning on 166221. Another 166 took me to Oxford again, this time 215, after taking a dud 165 down to Didcot it was onto 387170. That took me to Reading, which saw me on 387162 and an unidentified partner to Tilehurst. I returned to Reading on 165102, then took an unidentified HST to Didcot again, still wanting more new units. I was in luck as 800008 and 800012 squealed in looking very attractive. I boarded and sat down, wincing at the infamous abominations that Hitachi call seats. I was on this back to Reading (yes that's right I was very boring and just went Reading Didcot Reading pretty much all day) then boarding 387167, 43155 (and unidentified partner), 387153, 43098 and u.p. and 165109 in turn. The electrostars were winners those diesel units were duds.

I was pretty frustrated because if there was a normal timetabled service I would have got double the amount of electric units and not keep getting those turbos and HSTs I like both of those but many of them for my brother and I are duds. Anyway, that was Saturday. R :)

Sounds like a fun trip. Jealous of the 800's, would love to try one out.

Sounds like you had a good day. I'm also jealous of the 800s, they're a bit too far away from me  Don't let @fishquinn hear you say anything bad about the creamy coolers though! ;)

How do you know the food in M&S was "Out of Date". There is nothing wrong with selling food with a "Best Before Date" expired. Its only when it has a "Sell-by Date" is it a problem. If it was past its "sell-by date" why not sensibly tell a member of staff so they can correct the issue?

Thank you. The 800s are certainly nice, it’s just the seats that fail them.

By creamy cooler do you mean the Frostinos? Yuck, they’re rank.

I don’t rightfully care about dates on packaging  And he did sensibly tell a member of staff like you’ve just said btw, and she said “That’s why they’re reduced!”

SATURDAY 13TH JANUARY:

Hi. Today I woke up and my first thought was. "I want to get some Electrostars in my book". OK that's actually a lie. I'm not that sad. Far from it - we did happen to be in Bracknell today, so I decided to go down to Reading and 387 bash. TT-ONR-NRN didn't feel too great but agreed it was better than shopping so came.

We got dropped off at Martins Heron and caught 458523 and 458508, but when it finally got to Reading TT-ONR-NRN was feeling pretty sick so decided to bail and got a train back.

I decided to get some 387s done so I went to catch dud 387145 and winner 387149, these were in turn followed by 387 units 151, 131, 152, 158, 159 and 141. I bought a cheap return to Winnersh, taking 458514 and 458529 there.

Now comes the weird part. I was on the Reading platform with my headphones in. A mother and baby came on to the platform. So did some thirty year old (probably) dude. Then a girl in her mid teens came on to the platform too and actually started flirting with me on a railway platform for gods sake. As I am already taken this was not what I wanted to happen and I was too busy secretly praying for the train to come quickly, I didn't notice the group of Id say 18yr olds messing around on the London bound platform.

The light of the train appeared around the corner and the girls phone rang at long last and she answered it and left my alone. That's when I noticed the gang of youths hanging by the age of the platform suspiciously. They waited until the train was about to reach the platform then threw a glass bottle at the train! It smashed onto the driver's cab window (I don't think it damaged the window surprisingly) and the train violently jolted and bumped around, before coming to a rather ungraceful halt way beyond where it was supposed to stop. I was in a bit of shock...

The doors opened after ages. The train was formed of 450543 and 450555. I texted 61016 as soon as I boarded. Was that wrong of me?

Anyway, I had time for one more 387 trip so I took duds 159 and 141 out of Reading, returning on 387167 which was a winner. I then hung around Reading a while, enjoying the sound of a Voyager growl away en route to Manchester and a rather deafening fast Paddington bound Turbo take off from Platform 11. There were also a couple of guys my age on the platforms, most likely enthusiasts.

Then as planned I took 165104 back to Wokingham. We had planned to take this because a reliable source told us it was doing North Downs Line services this weekend, it is along with a certain two car unit the last train with the voice of Faye Dicker, the voice which TT finds very amusing though I cannot stick because it is so cringey.

We had planned to do a North Downs Line ranger tomorrow but as my brother is still ill that won't be happening and will have to be postponed.

Anyway, later.
:)

Sounds like a good day scoring Turbos! Considering the driver applied emergency brake and stopped the train early after having the bottle thrown at the cab, probably would not have made a difference if you had or hadn't texted BTP, as the driver would have reported it himself.

Why haven't you posted your Glasgow trip report on the 3rd January and the list of Units travelled on?

Texting the BTP was probably the right thing to do; after all it would be much better for them to know about it and it then turn out to be nothing instead of it not being reported and then something happening

Glad you had a good day, and I hope @TT-ONR-NRN feels better soon

I only scored one Turbo and that was a dud, but hey - thanks anyway

Erm. Because it would take me about two hours to do. I will at some point soon :)

I still need to get a 387 between Reading & Didcot (I've got a rough plan involving that fast service in the evening which departs Reading around 17:07.

Sounded like a good day, hope Master Z gets better soon

It certainly makes a change from a Turbo what with armrests and tables, although the turbos do kick up a great noise.
