I heard from someone that the rules hace changed for the tests regarding the three strikes on the tests. He recons that when you first fail it you have to wait 6 month and then you can fail again and retake after a year as many times as you like? Is this a new rule or have they got it wrong?

Unless very new it is wrong, i did them last june/july , it was six month wait if failed, only two strikes too.

I recently had my assessment day a few weeks ago. Was informed on the day that if you fail you have to wait 6 months to reapply and that you only get 2 strikes.

I only know it as two strikes and out. Must be a very new rule if not.

Really if people have to keep doing the tests over and over to get a pass, the job may not be for them. There are a lot of rules and different traction out there to learn. Failing repeat tests will raise competency issues.

The practice material is more then adequate to understand.

Just don’t let nerves get the better of you on the day.

It should have been clear but still confuses me..

I recently failed just on the last test for Arriva, called VSE. Since this is only an extra test for Arriva and Crossrail, do i have to wait 6 months for any other TOC application? Just wondering as if it was another TOC i would have been succesful and would have gone to the interview. Failing only to the specific arriva test and passing all the other tests should it make me waiting 6 months for any TOC?

My other question is, is the two strikes and out only for the tests or it applies to the interview as well?

The vse, will only count against any that use it. Its not part of the psychometrics , so you have full lives. If you fail it again then thats it for any tocs that require it. The mmi interview is two strikes, the dmi is not, although many people think if you fail a dmi with one company twice, they probably will not give you a third, but you can go elsewhere. That is just heresay , so could be wrong.

If you fail any part of the psychometrics its six months any toc, the opc tell you and almost all toc application forms state if you have failed any part of the train driver assessment within six months, you are unable to apply.

If you fail an element of the core train driver psychometric process.

You CANNOT take any element of the psychometric assessment process again within 6 months.

Even if you apply for every toc in the country.

Even if you manage to get to the assessment centre when you answer YES to the question.

Have you taken any part in the train driver assessment process within the last 6 months?

And they search your name you will be asked to leave.

Different tests e.g. DFFT or VSE have different rules as they're toc specific.

If you passed to national, but failed to enhanced, OPC said you can apply to TOCS that only require national standard straight away, however if you want to go to a TOC that requires Enhanced, then the 6 months apply......

Just for clarification,

Is it still the case that each days assessment must be a pass for all tests?

Failing one results in the entire day to be redone. Unless of course you pass all to a national standard, you can then retake the particular test of which an enhanced score is needed for the relevant TOC?
