I guess this is why the platform stablers are all altered to be stabling in 21/22 rds at Brixton/Walthamstow this evening.

I'll eat humble pie - they are going to be in service.

I almost had a ride on one on Tuesday - the driver announced that the following train was one of the new ones so if anyone wanted to give it a go we could get off. Which was nice, I thought. Unfortunately the next train (2 mins) was more of the usual, and the (presumably new stock) train was 13 mins away, so we decided not to bother this time.

They do look a lot bigger than the old trains, especially in the end-on shot shown on london reconnections

I think that whilst they may be slightly larger, that's something of an optical illusion in that photo- the cab of the old stock is more curved than the restof the carriage, and the new stock has the red parts going much, much lower. The old stock may even be slightly further away from the camera.

The new (09TS) trains are a fair size bigger than the 67TS (old). This is possible because the Victoria Line was built to a large gauge (and the Jubilee got an even bigger gauge) than the 'standard' Tube network. This was done to reduce air pressure on the service.

What they decided to do with the 09TS was use the large gauge. This has come with a negitive tho. Currently heavy work on the 67TS can be done at Acton, with the new trains they are going to have to leave the line via a lorry now.

There were some failed tests to see if they could squeeze a 09TS down the Piccadilly Line but they won't fit so the 09TS will be the first trapped trains on their own line for some years.
