For anybody interested in Reading West Station works, have a look at the following link:

http://planning.reading.gov.uk/fast...ationNumber=&AddressPrefix=&Postcode=

There are some plans on there for the replacement footbridge (for electrical clearances) and the reinstatement of access from Oxford Road to the Down platform.

Thanks 3973EXL. I could not see on the plans, reference to the reinstatement to the down platform from Oxford Road. Perhaps this is because it is Permitted Development? Where did you see that please? I wonder why it was ever taken away in the first place?

On another forum, some new 'expect this OLE to be live'* dates have emerged: Swindon by May, Bristol Parkway by June '18.

*May not actually be energised, but has to be treated as live by permanent way workers, admin etc. As before, actual OLE energisation could be months later.

Or could be extra materials which were ordered before the piles where put in and ended up being further away needing a TTC not a single cantelever, or could be some damaged in transit/storage meaning the couldn't be used? Could also be the scrap ends off the wire drums ( a 1200m wire run needs a drum length of around 1400m to allow for and damaged end and allow enough left on the drum to keep the tension) ATF and Earth wire come in 2000m lengths but very rare is the entire drum length used.
I often wondered that. Really useful info. Thank you.

Towards the bottom of the list, "other docs submitted with application".
Once again, thanks. (I must need new specs). The reinstated platform 1 Oxford Road access is indeed a pro-memorandum inclusion, as is really the new footbridge, but the Council has to get the chance to say that the footbridge should be elsewhere. Good luck with that, if they plan such! I noted that NR claim that the new footbridge is due to having to conform with European standards. Hmm.

More B&H work.

Aldermaston
Looks like the Down platform is being extended to the same length as the Up.

Reading West
Three piles gone in, at least partway. Looks more like they could be for a footbridge.

Attachment 43041 shows a blue brick arch at the end of the track that used to be a headshunt at Aldermaston. Does that mean by any chance that the headshunt could be reinstated.

The Padworth sidings have always struck me as ideal for a binliner service for Reading, Basingstoke and Newbury.

From a quick Flickr scan this afternoon, all the booms appear to be up to the east of Swindon; sections have been bolted together in the middle to give a "fully portalised" approach from Paddington.

B&H

Next week is the first block west of Theale (Mon 12th to Thurs 15th).

Recent progress at Thatcham & Midgham has been the fitting of all steelwork on the masts through the platforms.

Reading West Station

New footbridge and reinstated downside access from Oxford Road.
Murphy is the contractor based in the upper triangle at Reading. They have a RoadRailer there and a smaller machine on site.

No new developments on the downside yet, work ongoing on the upside.

Piles on the upside bank. Four in total, two fully in.

GWML west of Didcot

Steventon gap still to wire. Best I could tell from the train, just some SPS still to go up west of the bridge.

Up line east of Uffington crossovers, wire run still to go up.
Uffington crossovers to wire.

Both lines east of Bourton crossovers, wire run on each line still to go up.

Down line then wired to just west of Highworth Jn.
Up line wired to just east of the rail bridge over County Road.

Boom/portal to go up west of the Swindon station otherwise all appears to be up. SPS going up from east of the station through to the west as far as the old Swindon B SB.

Rushey Platt, up line has a single wire run through the points onto the Relief. Down line has two wire runs finishing further west.

Two other wire runs on the up from around, MP79 to 79 3/4 and MP81 3/4 to 82 1/2.

Wootton Bassett steelwork not complete but looking good.

Both lines then wired MP83 1/2 to 95 including Up & Dn Hullavington loops. Steelwork all looks good the there to Alderton Tunnel.

Track lowering and speed restriction was said by NR late last year to be part of a temporary solution, with some work on the track due to start in November. Has anything significant changed?

Post #5654 earlier in this thread refers.

Odd because I'd expect there to be a track sectioning point just 5km away at Westerleigh Junction. Why not put the AT there? I don't think it's a feeder point from outside the railway.

Some observations from Westerleigh Jct to Bristol Parkway this morn.

Westerleigh Jct
About 6 TTCs on the Chelt line still boomless. No SPS up yet.

Westerleigh-BPW
Progress more noticeable SPS-wise at the ends of each stretch. Still a few masts missing here and there.

Bristol Parkway
P4 is still mastless.

Is all of Didcot to Cardiff still scheduled for trains running from December (according to the December Enhancements Plan) or are any sections likely to be earlier/later than this?

Nothing will be earlier. As with last year work may be completed sooner; but final ORR sign off isn’t expected or pencilled in until late December as with last year.

Later depends on progress NR makes in meantime. At present state of play Cardiff and Newbury is entirely achievable by Christmas. Thingley should then follow next summer.

Excuse my ignorance but do you mean the wiring will be installed down to Cardiff/Newbury by Christmas or just the wiring in those specific areas?
