I have for a number of years considered that WW3 effectively started with the 1998 embassy bombings in Africa and has been rumbling along slowly ever since, with the September 11th attacks the most obvious manifestation of it.

Neither the Russians or the Americans would be reckless enough to risk it. Many people thought that the USA and North Korea would attack each other and yet both countries have appeared to have pulled back from the brink.

Russian TV has advised the best food to stock up on ready for nuclear attack

http://metro.co.uk/2018/04/13/russi...-three-best-foods-take-shelters-7463373/#mv-a

A Russian state TV station has told people what food they should take into bomb shelters as fears grow about the start of World War Three. Kremlin-owned Rossiya-24 said that there were lots of scare stories around, but then went on to tell people to pack iodine to protect themselves from radiation.
Pasta and chocolate should be avoid d
Now everyone agrees but it has become clear that events in this second Cold War develop a lot quicker. ‘It’s only just started and, here you go, we already have Cuban Missile Crisis 2.0.’ Man gives dead shark a c-section to save 98 pups The bomb shell advice included stated: ‘The food supply for doomsday includes many items but the main idea behind packing an emergency stock is less sweets, more water. ‘ Viewers were told to pack rice – ‘it can be stored for up to eight years, oatmeal for three to seven years’. The Russian favourite of buckwheat only lasts one year, they were informed. ‘Obviously, you can survive on tinned meat for quite a while – up to five years, while canned fish keeps for not more than two years. As it transpires, they were mocking the doom-mongers.

http://www.newsweek.com/russia-prep...cting-citizens-buy-water-and-gas-masks-881823

"While political and military experts discuss a possible scenario, some people are in a rush to create hysteria. But not in Syria, rather, in Russia. If you browse through social networks and Telegram channels, you'll see a lot of this. They post about WWIII, and that we must prepare for it. Our Ukrainian colleagues are doing their best, too. They quote Yuri Biryukov, Petr Poroshenko's adviser. They say that Moscow is initiating a global conflict, and the consequences may be catastrophic. This is normal behavior for the Kiev psych ward. We wonder if Russians believe this nonsense. They're advised by anonymous and not-so-anonymous fearmongers to start looking for spots in a bomb shelter and start storing matches, buckwheat, and salt. But judging from the lack of lines in stores to buy nails and canned goods, they don't believe it. However, if some people did give in to the panic, and decided to spend all their savings on a survival kit, we'll tell you how to not waste money on something you won't need."

I wouldn’t be happy.
I’ve just decorated the hall, and a nuclear firestorm would mess the finish up terribly.

I'm not expecting it to rain missiles any time soon, or a nuclear winter either.
Nor me, although it might suit the warped philosophy of some groups claiming to be religious.

Indeed, I would not put it beyond some such groups to "plant evidence" about poisons to deliberately stir up strife between "The West" & Russia, etc.

I hope WW3 is still some way in the distance. In the event of a forecast nuclear strike on the UK, are train services likely to be cancelled in advance, and will ticket acceptance be in place with other operators?

I doubt Russia or any other country would tell the UK they plan to flatten great Britain, and I'm sure the last thing on your mind would be catching a train.
If UK was nuclearised it would be recommended that you stay indoors or underground for a few months

Living in London, if there was a threat of a nuclear war, I would be seriously considering a train to somewhere less populated. Sleeper to Fort William for example.

Whereas I'd be heading towards the most likely target I could find. I'd rather be killed on the initial exchange that survive and suffer death at the hands of radiation sickness or starvation or disease.

Or the battle between survivors. There would be areas that could potentially be habitable even in the days following an exchange, but with no supplies it would be dog eat dog.

Which will take you right past Faslane nuclear submarine base; by the time your sleeper goes through there, you'll be able to boil an egg in the Loch...

And taking the Night Riviera past Plymouth might not be a very good option either...

You'd probably be better off hiding in the underground tunnels. Fastest missle from Russia to UK is under 20mins.

After watching Threads when I was younger I would be legging it to the nearest target. For me that used to be RAF Woodvale near Formby north of Liverpool. Was fascinated to find out that was the nearest nuclear target to me. Probably not any more.

I watched "Threads" on Youtube a few years ago, along with the studio discussion that was broadcast along with it. I'd probably prefer to be fairly close to a target too, and with RAF Lossiemouth only a few miles away, I reckon I'll be gone fairly quickly.

Wow that is a depressing film. Ha ha. It is RAF Finningley that gets nuked in that film. At the time there were Vulcan bombers based there. You would have to be a proper lunatic to launch a Nuclear assault but then we have Trump in charge of the US and Putin in Russia.

Funnily enough I went cycling past Finningley last Sunday and the Vulcan bomber was outside, just west of the terminal buildings. Hopefully Russia knows it's not in use now and that all a Tactical Nuclear Strike on Finningley would disrupt is the several dozen tourists drinking in the morning at the Wetherspoons there :s

I love the idea that Russia would have RAF Woodvale on a map of places to nuke first.

Though it had already happened up here as we're still in the middle of a nuclear winter (as alluded to above). Three - three - daffodils have decided to open, the rest have given up the ghost nearly a month late.

At least they're playing cricket at Greater Old Trafford, must have a micro-climate there.

EDIT quick check and it's now 10.3c, the highest so far this year.
