I am planning London to Weymouth in a couple of weeks using an off peak return, and is this ticket valid on the Southampton-Victoria services via Horsham on the return, And what other routes are permitted? Thanks.
Permitted routes from London to Weymouth are on the following
maps:-
- LB+CW
- PD+CW
- PZ
- RG+XR
- SW
- WE+WO
- WX+XR
Note that the London to Weymouth fares are either routed via Southampton or via Westbury; I assume you will be using a via Southampton ticket, in which case any permitted route that does not go via Southampton may result in you being charged a change of route excess fare, charged at half the difference between the price paid and the appropriate fare routed via Westbury.
In addition to the above, you may also use the permitted routes between London and the via point printed on your ticket, and from the via point to Weymouth. So if your ticket is routed via Southampton, permitted routes between London & Southampton are on the following
maps:
- LB+CW
- LF+CW
- PD
- PD+CW
- RG+XR
- SW
- WX+XR
The route via Barnham & Southampton is permitted on map combination LF+CW.
There is an extremely cheap ticket for Croydon -Weymouth via Barnham. (Cheaper than Southampton-Weymouth!!
Most ticket types are cheaper from Southampton to Weymouth (set by SWR) than from Croydon (set by GTR). The lowest priced Southampton to Weymouth is the Super Off Peak priced at £24.10, while the same fare from Croydon is £26.40.
I do hope that ticket isn’t withdrawn now it’s been mentioned. I have been using it for years.
SWR may not like the via Barnham fares, but if SWR attempted to ask GTR to alter these fares, that would be a clear breach of the rules.
I am confident SWR would not break the law and do such a thing, as that would be a very serious matter indeed.
