Two questions

Is there a list of all the codes available to make it easier to buy these, and is there a list of which of the tickets which include other modes of transport are available to use with a priv as not all are?

The codes can be found on brfares.com. it has them on its Rangers and Rovers section e.g. the 7-Day All Line Rover is I661.

I'll leave the priv part to another forum member as I'd hate to misinform you.

Check the BRFares Ranger and Rover site. If PRIV isn't valid then it should return No fares found.

I have tried this on all line rover and Spirit of scotland 4 from 8, both or which I know can be bought with a priv and on both these it comes up with invalid railcard entered.

Have followed the above advice sucessfully until last week when I wanted to buy a
Heart of Wales Circular Day Ranger,
copy and pasted to ensure no mistakes as when I checked it on BRfares it came up with "invalid rover name specified"

I was checking this as I was told at Llanelli that a priv fare was not available on this ticket, which may well be correct, however I cannot check as this ticket appears not to exist, at least as far as BRfares are concerned, cold anyone please let me know if I am being stupid or if there is something else going on?

Cheers in anticipation.

Is it even possible to buy rangers and rovers online or are they strictly ticket office only?

Didn’t you used to buy SOME of them online from GWR?

I know additionally some new LO machines will sell them.

GWR sell some online including the "all line":
http://tickets.gwr.com/gw/en/journeyplanning/roversandrangers
Southern Daysave can be bought online:
https://ticket.southernrailway.com/search/other/daysave
Southeastern Kent Rover can be bought online:
https://ticket.southeasternrailway.co.uk/search/other/roversrangers
Scotrail used to sell three of theirs online until Abellio took over and stopped it.
Also TPE's North of England Rover:
http://tickets.tpexpress.co.uk/tpe/en/JourneyPlanning/roversandrangers

www.railrover.org gives the ticket issuing codes for each rover/ranger where known, for example the OP's Heart of Wales Circular Day Ranger

There does not seem to be any enthusiasm for the majority of TOC's to sell rovers online.

From the NFM29 public release - the rovers one can get a Priv discount on.

From my experience as a ticket seller, each ticket issuing system is different. With some, the issuer needs to go into a menu and find the rover by either the "Description" or the "Location" whilst other software will need the "NLC"/"Location" to be typed into the destination field in Anywhere to Anywhere mode.

Code:
Rover Code	Description NLC Location Class	Restriction Code Fare

Cheers for that, obv not available for priv.
How am I supposed to know I need to check HOWCIRC DAY RNGR and not the full name?

That's the railway's preferred way of doing things. Ticket issuers have to try and match the public name of the rover with either the ticket description or the location description.
As can be seen from the table above, this isn't exactly made easy for the average seller.

Useful thanks. TVMs in GWR land don’t sell rovers or rangers, so useful to know I can buy online and collect as penalty fare station I start from the RPIs take convincing I couldn’t buy my ticket/ticket office not manned!

AFAIW, you can only have rovers purchased through GWR's website sent by post; they can't be collected via ToD. When I bought my 7-day ALR back in 2016, I only had the option for it to be posted to my address. Checking now, it only offers being sent by first class post or next-day delivery.

Which explains why I couldn't buy a Cherwell Valley for the Saturday on Friday. It must have been too close to the time for delivery.

Wherever I lay my hat
Does anyone have a link that works for Devon & Cornwall Rover tickets?
I’m selecting the one I want on the GWR website but when I try to buy it keeps returning “Safari cannot open the page because too many redirects occurred”. Having a problem on Firefox too - it can’t even show me the one I want (3 days in 7 with a senior railcard, commencing 5th July).

Perhaps I’m too early, but it isn’t telling me that.

Edited for future readers - I was on an iPhone. Much more success on a MacBook, although I still ended up buying from SWR website as it was simple compared to the others I tried.

Are you trying to purchase the rover through a web browser on a mobile device? I had this same issue when trying to purchase the All Line Rover I used last year from GWR's website using Google Chrome on my phone. After enabling the 'request desktop website' option within Chrome's settings, the transaction worked correctly.

Checking Safari on my iPad, it seems the browser lacks this option. As such, I'd suggest using Chrome instead. Firefox may have this option as well, but as I don't have it installed I can't say for sure.

I tried SWR as well, didn't get very far at all. Thanks folks, I'm home now so can have a go on my MacBook, using a different browser to Safari if it proves necessary.

Good to know it sounds like these tickets are still available anyway - the NRE info on them doesn't seem to have been updated since 2017.

Tap and hold the 'refresh' icon on Safari to load a desktop version.

Virgin Trains ticket machines sell various Manchester based tickets such as the Manchester Wayfarer for instance, ignore the message that comes up saying that the machine does not sell rangers and rovers though!

That irritates me sometimes about sites on the internet when sites ( not always to do with trains and railways )are not updated. I know its all about getting the right people to do the updates, but surely important sites like NRE should give it a priority ?
