Looking to book a return from Huddersfield to London for 14th June and returning on the 15th June. None of the search engines have advance fares available but if I use Mirfield, Brighouse, Manchester, Leeds or Wakefield, they all have availability to London. Even Slaithwaite does!

Any ideas where/what the glitch is?

No quota on the TPE legs.

Trainsplit will offer a combination of tickets for the fastest journeys, or alternatively you could go to Advanced Mode and select the avoiding TOCs option, tick to avoid TPE, and you'll be offered through fares on Northern connecting services.

I was confused for a moment, then I realised you meant 'no quota left / remaining', rather than TPE not having a quota in place for Advance tickets on those trains!

It could also be TPE blacklisting certain trains for certain tiers of Advances (or for Advances set by certain TOCs). Not being familiar with TPE's Advance strategy I couldn't say, but I would be surprised if the entire Advance quota for travel in over a month has already sold out.

I think you are reading too much into it. I am just saying that, for the fares in question, there is no quota available on the TPE legs.

TPE are offering Advance fares for journeys such as Manchester to Leeds on the same trains. Maybe it's a mistake, I don't know.

Bizarre that the default position isn't to offer a via Wakefield option. I have managed to now circumnavigate it by avoiding Leeds but a bit of a farce. £22.50 instead of £110 quite a difference.

Edit: I've spotted the issue. The Huddersfield - Westgate service seems to have disappeared from the new timetable.

It's more likely that the quota for VWC fares is extremely small (if there actually is one) so as to leave availability for their own, more profitable, fares.

TPEXP block advance tickets on some trains especially in the peaks so even if your journey is mostly on Virgin Trains but with part travel on TPEXP you will not get an advance fare. Mirfield, Slaithwaite etc are Northern stations and fares are set by Northern, Suggest you book from another station and book singles to said station although train must stop at said station. Also no Huddersfield to Wakefield WESTGATE trains from new timetable, trains run Huddersfield to Wakefield KIRKGATE only.

From May 20 this becomes a Huddersfield - Kirkgate service. The times are, of course, in the Leeds - Hebden Bridge timetable.

Mirfield, Slaithwaite and so on may be Northern stations, however a good portion of the service will be TPE in the new timetable - especially those services likely to be useful to long distance journeys, and thus quota availability will be set by TPE.

Alongside the other services that call at Mirfield, Deighton and Huddersfield ;)
