Trivia: Bus stops named after landmarks which no longer exist.

Two mentioned in the First South West thread are Muller Road depot in Bristol (now demolished) and Badgerline Depot in Weston-super-Mare (now First).

I’m sure there are many more.

The councils update the Naptan data pretty frequently, so this sort of thing should not be very common. Of course it is though as bus companies can change what stops are named "in the background" to appear on duty boards/public timetables... and then forgotten about when a changes occurs locally.

The most common I find is where a Post Office has closed down, but the stop name is still called 'xxxx PO". Same with Public Houses.

The same can happen in reverse of course. A bus operator can know of a change locally before the council, amend the names on timetables etc, inform the council of what has changed and then wait a couple of months for the Naptan stop name to be changed, so it appears on Google etc correctly.

Also as I mentioned, in Bristol there is Filton Police Station and King George VI. Filton Police Station was demolished about 5 years ago, and new flats built on the site. And the building which housed the King Georve VI pub is still there, but now houses the Brewer's Decorator Centre.

On the 376 (southern end) there's the Cow and Gate factory, closed down and demolished a good few years before the streetdecks (the first buses to have such announcements) had arrived. Further west, you have Coxley Pound Inn, again closed down and demolished a couple of years ago.

One not far from here is Duffryn, nr Panasonic. The Panasonic factory was demolished a couple of years ago and the site is now a housing estate.

The stop in Forest Gate, London, on Romford Road at the junction of Upton Lane and Woodgrange Road, is known as 'Princess Alice' even though the pub of the same name has been closed for many years.

Wessex ran a service 10 from Bath University up until two or three years ago (help me out here please Grand Wazoo) I was amused as they used a terminus /bus stop point named Kingsway Post Office in Bath which had already closed around 1992! There is still a postbox there though!

The Rotunda stops in Liverpool refer to the Rotunda Theatre which was bombed in WW2 and never rebuilt!

Given the mortallity rate of pubs in the last few years, there must be loads of examples. One I can think of is the Swan & Sugar Loaf in South London, on the route of the 60 and indeed most buses between Croydon and Purley. (The Swan & Sugar Loaf is now a Tesco, gnash...)

Now that we have no collieries left in the UK, there must be many instances where the name “Pit Gates” is still in use. In Armthorpe near Doncaster the bus stop is still known by that name even though the PTE’s bus stop name Uses a street name. Indeed many official bus stop names (usually road names) are not those used by the public.

There's a few of those too. Gates's Corner and Henly's Corner come to mind.

The 86 in Leeds is shown in the timetable to have a timing point at holbeck police station. This closed years ago and was demolished and a aldi and Fulton foods now occupy the site.

I imagine public houses will fill out the bulk of superseded stop names across the country. The King's Head pub in Ore closed down many years ago - to be converted into a veterinary practice last I heard - but the stop is still known as Ore King's Head.

Indeed it is - it's open one Sunday every month.
Sadly, the actual bus destination blinds now say 'Croydon Colonnades' rather than 'Croydon Airport'...

This is the area near the Premier Inn/Beefeater, which looked like to have been a child's funfair at one time going by the names of fairground rides carved into the slabs on the ground.
