And now Moyes has left West Ham.

That's not a great surprise - I think they'll be fighting relegation again next year. It's a shame - the aspirations of the owners seem to have driven them to this; the move to the new stadium was a mistake. That stadium is not suited for English football, where the fans are used to being close to the action. I know many European clubs play in similar stadia, it doesn't seem to work here.

Former Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers defender Jlloyd Samuel has sadly died after being involved in a traffic collision in Cheshire. :'(

Former Aston Villa and Bolton defender Jlloyd Samuel has been praised as a selfless, honest and positive friend after he died aged 37 in a car crash.

Samuel, most recently player-manager of non-league side Egerton, died in an accident in Cheshire on Tuesday.

A minute's applause was held at Villa Park before the Championship play-off second leg between Villa and Middlesbrough.

The supporters sang "there's only one Jlloyd Samuel" during the tribute.

Having to suffer Talksport again this evening. Good what an terrible, biased, over hyped broadcast. It appears designed to appeal to sun reading premier league supporting simpletons and spoon feed them information. Terrible commentator and a useless expert. Their love of the disgustingly hateful John Terry is sickening. I hope they have to commentate on Traore tearing him a new one. The big factoid they are hamming up is that no one has lost a first leg championship play off and won through to the final. Wow. A god awful station and they have the rights to overseas cricket now.

Cowdenbeath design their entire season to win that play off game!

I'm not a great fan of Talksport but it's you that comes across as the simpleton here, no understanding of any opinion other than your own just vitriol and bile.

I really am surprised about this, I thought he did a good job certainly better than I expected although Joe Hart seems to be blaming him for the fact he isn't in the World Cup squad, bizarre!

World Cup winner Ray Wilson has sadly passed away at the age of 83, RIP.
Just heard the news, a bad day for football all round it seems. I'm too young to have seen Ray Wilson in the blue and white of Huddersfield, but for a modestly-sized club like Huddersfield it was always a source of pride that one of the "boys of '66" was one of our own.

Deepest sympathies to the friends and family of both Wilson and Samuel.

I stand by my opinion. Talksport is a radio station designed to spoon feed plastic southern based premier league fans very simple over hyped guff about football. It is aimed at Sun reading white van drivers ( adverts: Toolstation, Screwfix, Betting, Sky Sports) who think that supporting "their team" involves not going to games but wearing the shirt of a premier league team based 100's of miles away, sat in the pub drinking their Stella and shouting at sky sports. What do you find troubling about that?

What opinion does talk sport offer? They didn't seem to have any information about Middlesbrough or know the first thing about them other than Tony Pullis being boring and they scored form corners. They knew precious little about Villa apart from John Terry and Jack Grealish and it was clear that they only mentioned them because they might be known to their core listeners. The quality of the commentary was low, it seemed to miss parts of the action, the information imparted to he listener was poor and biased, the whole show was overly matey and bantz based, the expert summeriser (Matt Taylor?) wasn't very good although he was about the best thing involved and the touchline reporter couldn't have been more obviously a mate of Steve Bruce if he tried. It is clear they DESPERATELY want Premier League coverage and were trying to hype up a fairly dull if solid game between 2 old school managers into something it wasn't, much like thier sky sports colleagues.

Well it seems the one piece of information they did spoon feed you you got wrong. Maybe you was too busy frothing about premier league supporters to hear properly ;)
The stat is no team has won through to the final after losing the first leg at home in a championship play off.

Apologies - I think the quality of the broadcast drove me to the intellectual level of the core listener ship!

As for Traore tearing Terry a new one. Maybe he would have if he could have got out of Hutton's pocket at any point over the two legs. Traore is the very definition of a headless chicken. I don't think I have ever watched a player with less football nous than him.

I agree he is a complete headless but when it comes off he is unplayable! He has improved but he is a vastly frustrating player. Quick, tricky, skillful. No footballing brain! Boro were poor and didn't really seem to turn up in either game. Traore was double marked and they didn't exploit the gaps elsewhere, they were too crab like in midfield and Asombalobabongabongabongabongabongabonga was isolated and couldn't use his pace up against the aged Terry. The odd changes were when Bamford came on in both games. I would have gone 2 up and played Bamford off Britt or the lumpen Gestede. Hopefully Pullis, with a full season can go one better next year. He still has another year of parachute payments before the cuts need to come for the third year ( the situation Villa would be in if they lost i think) so can get his own men in rather than Monks players. I think he did well to get them in the play offs tbh.

I will agree with you about Talksport though. Their commentaries are basically 90 mins of shouting interspersed with 100 ads for betting companies. Truly awful radio station and it will surprise no one to hear they are owned by NewsCorp

it is awful drivel - but clearly expressing such an opinion here isnt popular!

Finishing 8th from the jaws of relegation, yet complaining about his style of play.

Football fans, and premier league fans in particular, can be very stupid. Everton were 2 points above relegation when BFS took over. They nearly qualified for the UEFA cup. They still have a very unbalanced squad and lack a decent centre forward. Marco Silva will be in demand - i wonder if Everton get him having failed in Novemeber.

The owners want to be big fish in the big pond, but don't have the resources. But then again, I can't see why anyone in their right mind would want to work for them, what with Sullivan's incessant meddling and Brady spouting off in her newspaper column.

BBC local radio is usually the best to listen to football but I'll listen to talksport 2 because they often have some more interesting games on instead of just what the fancy pants clubs are doing (the ones which usually have no heart). Radio 5 Live Sports Extra does not have nearly as good coverage unfortunately

Although speaking of last night's playoff semi final my heart has just about recovered.

They kind of did if I wanted to ( legally) listen to the match last night what with Talksport having exclusive radio rights............................................

UEFA should really stop teams who have a terrible group stage in the champion's league being able to drop down to the Europa League, Marseille are the true champions this season as they had to fight their way through a tough campaign rather than being able to drop into the knockout stages after a rubbish group stage in the "Top 4" league.

(Just seems to me that the majority of winners in the past 10 years are Champion League rejects who could only finish 3rd in their group)

I agree, it just doesn't seem right and it just devalues the Europa League.

As a Fulham fan who witnessed extra time heartbreak against Athletico in 2010 (having played 18 games to get to the final in the first place), I also agree!

Based on current form - they are the best team in Madrid

No team to my knowledge with the word Athletico play in Madrid, but there is a team known as Atletico de Madrid.

On more mundane matters, Coventry City played the second leg of their League Two play-off semi-final at Notts County, having been held to a 1-1 draw at home in the first leg and performed much better away from home, winning the match 4-1 and the play-off 5-2. They will now play Exeter City at Wembley in the Leage Two play-off final on Monday, 28th May.

.

Jesus! (or should that be 'hezoos'?) - lol. I assumed that it was the team from Madrid because they have just won the Europa League (again). We all know the media are ignorant about spellings and names, anyway. For my part I do know that it is Atletic (not Atletico) Bilbao - or is there an "h" in it?

Put it this way; I do know there is no "g" in Altrincham; only one "e" in Dukinfield; the only "e" in Droylsden is the last vowel and there is no "h" in Tintwistle. Oh, and the really ironic one (politically/demographically) speaking; there is *definately* no "h" in Tameside.

So Hebei China Fortune have announced on their Weibo account (Weibo is basically Chinese Twitter) that Pellegrini has left .
Surely David Sullivan hasn't actually managed to attract a respected, experienced, successful manager to the utterly shambolic three-ring-circus that is West Ham United?
I will be stunned, surprised, and elated if so!
