Hi, not sure if there is already a thread about these, but what’s the latest on getting the first set of modified HST carriages back?

Thanks in advance

On another forum there is mention of XC being unhappy at the quality of work.

Well shall we say they have had about 12 months to decide if the quality is good as XC03 has been out service for at least 16 months, I haven't even had these Mk3's for haulage or sight yet.

Just because it has been out of service doesn't mean it's been worked on or completed for all that time. How can you check the quality of the overall product before it's finished...

What I mean is that they are taking their time to check the quality, not that it is finished yet, they could do with the set in service as they are losing out on 7 coaches.
They need to make sure its done properly of course. As with the GWR Castle set there have been a few teething troubles.

They only need this set back because we need to put the other 4 through before the end of next year...

Yes, I guess once the first set has been done the others should be that bit quicker, and at least your MK3's haven't gone rotten on the outside unlike GWR's as you can see the holes on the end gangways on the outside.

XC has rejected the first set of carriages from Wabtec due to a litany of problems that need sorting out.

We all know the "end of next year" date won't matter.
EMT will be given special permission to run, as will anyone else will running un-modified MK3s.

As far as EMT's concerned, a recent post stated that design work was 'already in progress' to allow EMT to run MK4 coaches with HST power cars. (Although of course, if this happens, it might still not be in time for the deadline and EMT might need an extension on the MK3s (?1 year), then the MK4s...
Of course, once the MK4's were in place the DfT might then decide there was no hurry to get the bi-modes in (especially as suitable ones might not exist!) We're well used to getting screwed over in the East Midlands railway-wise!

I thought the MK4 coaches could never be cleared on the East Mids route? Gauging issues?
It's a rumour that's been going round for ages...
MIght be wrong though I guess.

They aren't cleared at the moment, but if someone gets the chequebook out to pay for the necessary infrastructure alterations then they can be cleared

Also, I'm pretty sure other posters have said they think the gauging issues are minimal.
Anyhow, I guess we're getting a bit offtopic here.
Maybe a new thread is needed for 'MML interim rolling stock solutions' or something but it's probably not worth starting until we get some sort of official announcement from Grayling/Dft whoever. The clock's ticking and they'll have to be more specific soon.

There are already a number of suitable extant threads anyway talking about MML Rolling Stock needs for their next franchise. But people also regularly trigger off side discussions in other similar threads that are slightly more topical, I don’t know what the answer might be...

This was in the Railway Gazette today:

CrossCountry expects the first of its IC125 trainsets to be fitted with power doors by Wabtec to return to traffic at the end of this week.

Is this correct? Is there any more information anywhere?

Bit of platform end dribblings ... Do we think the vehicles haven’t been checked against the required standard?

Sounds like platform end dribblings to me. Do you think the vehicles haven’t been checked against the required standard?
If Wabtec and GWR have anything to do with it then yes. Wabtec are behind and some how if that's true then someone has cut corners and GWR needs the set but it seems to be going wrong.

Platform end dribble, I’m afraid.

There was a lot of work went into this at Wabtec before any order was placed, including setting up a test rig in a redundant Mark 3.

Which MK3 was that by the way.
So your saying it was a problem before it went into the train.

The first Castle set is not yet wheelchair capable, because it isn't in its final formation yet, and will be reformed. This has been mentioned in the GW version of this thread a few times.

That will be sometime next year when the number of sets goes up I guess. What formation will it be A,B,C,D with A being the TGS and D next to the power car still.
