Hello All. Is there any GWR Exeter St Davids Drivers here? I'm currently working in that London and fancy moving well away from it and noticed GWR are recruiting for qualified drivers in Exeter. At the moment I'm on a 10 week cycle of 8 weeks on and 2 off which I have to say I quite like! Can anyone tell me what the rosters are like in Exeter? And also what the difference is between Exeter St Davids and West Region? Also, any info from drivers about what it's like to wokr for GWR would be nice info!

If you join at Exeter, you will go on to the West side - local units. Start in Branch link working Exmouth, Barnstaple and Paignton only., traction is 150/153/143. Then progress to Central link and gain Plymouth and Bristol and 158s and 165/6s, then either East or West link, and sign either Penzance, or Cardiff and Westbury. You can also put your name down for HSS.

Branch link is a 4 day week, Sundays outside - required to work booked Sundays. 18week roster rotation in Branch link. Smaller in the higher links. Only the West and East links have a week of RDs - however if I've read new proposals correctly, these will soon go and all drivers will be on a 4day week.

Thanks for that Tiptoptaff. I think I might apply and see if they invite me over for interview. I should imagine the the view form the cab is much prettier than I have at the moment. Any idea how long it takes for a line on HSS?

Minimum of 2 years, then depends on the wait. There's a harmonisation proposal being voted on at the moment, and I'm not entirely sure how that will affect the West/HSS transfer. HSS will be ringfenced, but there will be a harmonised grade of GWR Driver that all new drivers will be put in to. Not sure hwo the HSS/Local split will be then going forward.

Thanks again! I heard about the harmonisation thing from a driver at Paddington, but I suppose that's something I could ask about if I get to interview. I don't really mind what I drive, but I do want to give High Speed a go at some point in my career, and hopefully that will be longer than 2 years!
