Well, happy days just been informed I have got a Grade 4 position in a ROC.

Apparently may be starting signalling school as soon as end of July for this one, so is anyone else booked in for York signalling school for around the end of July? Would be cool if others off here will be attending at the same time!

Congrats! How long did you wait from interview to verbal offer ?

Hi daveclarke. For this position I found out approximately 2 weeks after the interview. For the other one it was a bit faster, about just over a week from interview to being informed via email.

I have previously had unsucessful interviews too and they ranged from an email weeks later to a call from the LOM directly the day after. So sadly it can be anything from a day to weeks, it is down to if the LOM has to reschedule interviews, plus maybe workloads etc. I always made it a point to actually ask at interview when we could expect to hear of the result and it was always either when they said or a little longer.

Sorry it is a little disambiguous!

Feel free to PM if you need to, save cluttering the thread with specific conversations.

Hi all

New to the forum, have a couple of questions

so I've applied to a grade 2 box and reached the required benchmark in testing but when I applied for a grade 3 it stated I had not reached the required benchmark does this mean I'm wasting my time applying for grade 3 positions and above until I can retake the tests? its 6 months I believe is this correct?

Also do they take relocation into account when selecting a new signaller, so if I applied for a position 300 miles away but stated I was willing to relocate do you think would go against me vs someone that was local or do they simply pick the best candidate that scored highest regardless of where they live in relation to the box?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi,

I have seen posts on here with people relocating for signalling roles.

I got the pre offer email yesterday so im over the moon, but has anybody else on here been a contractor and moved into a Signaller role? The reason im asking is, they want 3 years employment history with any gaps of unemployment, and the gaps need to be accounted for.
However I think in the last 3 years, I have had about 24 contracts, and been unemployed about 23 times, so what would be a 5 minute form for a person who has a permanent job, has turned into a bit of a mess for me finding all sorts of evidence.
I have never claimed off the state before either, I solely rely on money earned when employed to cover me inbetween jobs but it says they want proof of travel/universal credit payments or credit card statements showing payments which I dont have either.
So im hoping this isnt going to affect my application, however the checks NR do, I got done for a contract in January along with MOD and Nuclear clearance! But no doubt my current Disclosure Scotland wouldnt be accepted lol.
So bottom line is, has anybody been in the same situation and how deep did they go with all evidence? Thanks in advance.

Hi signal2112.

I have had many applications even for lower grades where it stated I never reached the required benchmark or my CV was not up to spec. Yet I was getting interviews from Grade 2 to Grade 6 as well. I would not read too much into it, I would recommend just applying to EVERYTHING you are willing to relocate to, irrevelevant to the grade. I mean, what have you got to lose other than a bit of time to fill out and copy/paste your answers in?

They do not care about relocation, I have just bagged a role that is 2.5hr away from where I currently live. Most of the interviews I had were at least 2 hours travel from where I live so distance is not an issue. Feel free to apply wherever! I just made sure that it was clearly stated on my CV that I was willing to relocate.

Hope that helped.

Well done Cerebral! Was the position for York ROC by chance?

Thanks for the confirmation. I can forget about an interview for that one then as my application still sat at ‘application under consideration’. Ho hum! Glad someone off here has got one of the 10 slots though, well done once again!

Does anyone know the train operating companies for three bridges ROC and how many panels they have and what routes they cover? I have tried to visit but it’s been impossible to get in without an appointment and the LOM is on leave! Any info will be greatly appreciated as interview is tomorrow

As a local to Three Bridges all I can tell you is that Southern and Thamelink and Gatwick Express all operate via there so hopefully that's starting point. The routes will be on the company websites or Wikipedia

Well interview done and it wasn’t fun. At least I was told I could stop when asked about what safety means to Network Rail! Good luck to those going tomorrow and now for the dreaded wait to be told unsuccessful!!!!

The worst interview I’ve ever had resulted in me getting the job. Conversely best interview I’ve ever had resulted in me not getting the job. Both with Network Rail (albeit internal interviews). Just goes to show you never really know the result when you walk out of the room.

They should have less but I had lost out several times to internal candidates, moving from other boxes that were closing down. Was always told I was pipped "by one or two marks" at the interviews in both cases! ;)

You'll get 5 points on the safety question if you say this in the coloured sections.

Yeah its a compulsory question they have to ask. I've just got a job in recruitment at NR just waiting for a start date.

Congratulations mate, well done you have the same question I presume??

Had my interview This week, just waiting to hear back..... understand this could be upto 3 weeks, so just hoping it will sooner rather than later and a positive outcome!! Lol

Hopefully my answers ticked enough positive indicators to get the role!!!

They have to ask the safety question to all applicants that apply regardless of the role. Hopefully you'll be ok it's all about patience I think. I've previously applied for 5 different roles didn't get past the online test. Then applied for this role have no experience what so ever in recruitment and managed to be successful. My advice would be to just keep applying for what ever you see.

Oh I will do, whatever comes up I will apply for!!!

This role just ticks every box for me, salary, stat date, role, location etc.... hence why I want it!

Just a case of waiting now, keep checking emails and portal...... just hope the answer comes sooner rather than later!!!! Hate waiting lol

Good afternoon,

First time poster after “loitering” through the forums for a while. I too have received a phone call for one of the York ROC positions.

Cerebral, if you don’t mind me asking, have you received anything more since the phone call?

Good luck to everybody else and hang in there!
