Are those the reliability mods, ETS mods, or both?
All bar 032 and 044 have already had the full reliability mods - they're now getting (or due) specific CAF Mk5 Mods - Dellners and other equipment (driver-controlled PA and doors for example).

Other than 038 (which is set up to test the Mk5s with 1.5kv ETS) the others are retaining classic (850v) ETS for now (even post the other CAF mods) so they can work the old stock. It's not a big job to switch over the ETS, though, and can be done at depot in due course rather than having to go back to Brush.

006/020 are getting the full reliability mods and CAF Mk5 mods as part of their F Exams (aka reinstatement)

032/044 will get overhauls and reliability mods in due course (once the CAF mods are sorted most probably) but currently not planned to get CAF Mods.

Elaborating on Scott's list above, current status:
  • Full mods (incl CAF) complete - 014 / 023 / 038
  • Reliability mods done, CAF mods in progress (at Brush) - 028 / 033
  • Reliability mods done, CAF mods to be done - 010 / 018 / 043
  • Major overhaul, reliability mods and CAF mods in progress (at Brush) - 006 / 020
  • Overhaul and reliability mods to be done (but not CAF mods) - 032 / 044
  • Stored Loughborough Brush - 045 / 046
  • Stored Frethun Depot - 021 / 040
Paths are in for another 92 to run from Willesden to Crewe tomorrow, then in to Brush on Tue to be the next one for CAF mods now 014 is out. Likely to be 018, but to be confirmed (assuming the paths run!)

For 92010/018/028/033/043 it is the Dellner couplers. The ETH mods may be done at Brush, but can be done on depot and whether it is done or not depends on the service requirement.

92006/020 are receiving all the mods done so far on the other 92s as part of their overhaul, including the Dellner mods.

I don't think F exam really does justice to the work being done on them! Back in BR days, it may well have been described as HGR ("Heavy General Repair" - name used for Class 37 refurbishment) given the level of work involved.

Totally agree, but that's officially what they're being badged as. I think "reinstatement after 11/17 years in (mostly open) storage" says it all...!

In some ways it is quite refreshing (and most un-MDTR!) to just call it an F exam. There's plenty of other organisations who would have come up with some fancy "Project......" title for it.

Overhead couple of folk saying a 92 came off the road in Polmadie yesterday morning. Might put a strain on GB loco wise.

92033 is the latest to come out of Brush at Loughborough with CAF mods. It went south to Willesden TMD from Loughborough today hauled by 73961. I managed a photo of the move at Acton Central this afternoon:

Where's 92022? Have never seen it. Is it stored somewhere?

Firstly 92022 is really off-topic for this thread as it is a DB Cargo loco, not a GBRf/sleeper loco.

It was exported through the Tunnel in March last year, reportedly heading for Bulgaria.

**POSSIBLE** Class 92 release from Brush on Saturday:

73968 is at Brush too, so the return path to Brush and lack of assisting 66 paths (for now at least) suggests the 73/9 might be the tow loco.

Interesting tim once 92006 and 020 are they likely to be tested out on the cars like the other locos that had the more intensive overhauls.

I should think so - with some fairly extensive WCML testing before that. They've been stored 12 and 17 years respectively so doubt they'll run straight down to Wembley the day after and go on the beds ;)

How many does that leave still to go through the mods process?

Haha yeah i wouldn’t of thought that either was thinking more of maybe getting a run on the china clays possibly but these seem to be class 66 hauled throughout lately or is that just due to the freight designated 92s helping out on the sleeper due to locos being in the works just now.

4 in progress (028, 018, 006, 020); 2 to go in (010 / 043); 4 done (038, 023, 014, 033). At a guess 028 is the one due out on Saturday.

Partly due to two 92s being in Brush and partly due to an increase in GB-operated tunnel traffic, notably the Gateway-Duisburg-China flow which is typically two tunnel crossings a week; plus also stock deliveries (717s / 802s). Means 2x 92s need to stay at the tunnel pretty much full time now and can't have one going on a scenic tour of the WCML and Carlisle for half the week.

The two usually posted there are 032/044 - they're both yet to receive the reliability mods all the others have had, so whilst the can work the Beds, preference is usually to use ones that have had the mods (e.g. 043).

I wasnt sure what the operations they have at tunnel just now 92043 seems to be putting in a solid performance on the sleepers since its been a regular.

Sad. That's my favourite one. Oh well, at least it's DB who own it. Hopefully in the future GBRF and CS buy the 92s from DB Cargo Romania and Bulgaria and put them back in service here to replace the 86s and on passenger services.

I've just had an idea but really it would be off-topic in this thread.

It likely went as a spares donor. Sorry to say, but I don’t think it’ll ever come back to these shores.

Not 100% sure but think it might’ve been 6D02 overnight from Dollands Moor Sidings to WEFOC.
