By mid-2020? With all these delays at this point the 72 stocks will be running until they are 55 years old (60 if you count them being closely derived from the 67 stock design).
I did read back in 2013 that they were set to reach their diamond anniversary!By mid-2020? With all these delays at this point the 72 stocks will be running until they are 55 years old (60 if you count them being closely derived from the 67 stock design).
That's the one. I always thought it was bombardier, but I do much prefer this design to the Siemens mockup.
The windows and doors look quite similar (bar the pocket) as both designs have a lack of rounded windows on them. What inspiration do you think that took from the 1938 stock? I can't see any real similarity.
Well, it would be pretty cool to see. I do hope there ends up being a full preserved set as it's a design that's been used in a lot of the trains London Underground have used over the years (67, 72Mk1, 72Mk2, 73, 83 (with single leaf doors and a more similar look to the D stock). All these trains at some point have run on the Victoria (67), Northern (72Mk1), Jubilee (72Mk2 and 83), Bakerloo (72Mk2), Piccadilly (73) and Central (67 test runs at the east end).I did read back in 2013 that they were set to reach their diamond anniversary!
Deep Tube Upgrade Programme (DTUP):
Piccadilly line Upgrade Stage 1: Rolling stock replacement
Outputs and Schedule: Procurement of 94 new design trains, with increased capacity and air-cooling to replace the existing, life-expired, Piccadilly line fleet.
Infrastructure upgrades and enabling works to support the introduction of the new trains to be delivered between 2023 and 2026.
This is the first stage of the Piccadilly line Upgrade which will increase peak capability from 24 to 27 trains per hour before line-wide re-signalling, which will be progressed under Stage 2 of the project, to enable upgrading of services to 33 trains per hour.
to seek approval for contract award for a base order for new rolling stock for the Piccadilly Line with options to procure new rolling stock on the Bakerloo, Central and Waterloo & City lines
Should I be shocked by the lack of inclusion of Bombardier?
There are three tenderers left in the race: a consortium of Bombardier and Hitachi, and Alstom and Siemens. As most folk know, I think, Alstom and Siemens have announced their intention to merge their railway interests
No 1967 Stock cars are used.
Indeed, many refurbished 1967/1972 parts were interchangeable - air vent handles, grab-poles etc found their way onto other Stock.I remember seeing a NDM with a Victoria Line Blue grab rail though, but now the refurb is done this is probably gone. It was on 3438, is this a coincidence? But if it’s a NDM it must be 72MK1, right?
Bakerloo has a few sets that are modified 72 MkI's, rather than 72 MkII's.
