Hi, i was travelling to work and some guys catched me at leaving from train station (they blocked gate). They asked me about my ID card but i didnt had, my name, date of birth, address and i gave them. i received letter but with wrong spelled name (one letter difference) ALSO i live now in other address, so is this enough reason to not pay the penalty?

Would a reasonable person think that the Penalty Fare is *clearly* for someone else? No, it's a one letter difference and sent your old address.

Pay up.

As others have said, No, definitely not a reason to avoid your liability.

Ultimately, if it remains unresolved, the PF option could be cancelled and a prosecution started instead.

Ignoring the letter on the above grounds seems a sure fire way of eventually being found guilty in your absence. In about 6 or 7 months time you’ll be able to come back and ask how to get out of the much worse situation. Ask yourself if “I ignored a letter with a single letter error” will convince a magistrate...

When it comes to spelling on a PF, it comes down to whether it could reasonably be thought to be for you. In this case, a one letter difference wouldn't be unreasonable. As with my name, where they'd put the I and the E the wrong way around, or used an O instead of an A - or spelt my surname like the town of the same name, not the fruit like I spell it, as these are reasonable and common ways of spelling my name, and it would clearly be for me.

It's not like a plane ticket where the spelling has to match your passport exactly.
