I submitted my application for dundee/Perth well before the closing date but haven't heard anything but some people I know who applied after me have heard one has been taken to the next stage and the other has not been taken any further.....any ideas as to why I ain't heard anything?

I applied quite early after the job was posted, then heard back about a week after the applications for Aberdeen closed. Since the Edinburgh apps are still open, I doubt anyone will hear until after they close. I'm guessing it will take awhile to hear back based on assessment centre dates and attendance numbers.

Disclaimer:
I don't know if this is how ScotRail will be doing things so pinch of salt here:

I worked in recruitment for awhile and the way we did it was with a stoplight system--'green' are the people who are invited to AC first, we did it in the order that we received the applications within the green band. We filled our earliest ACs with all of the 'green' people first, then if there were extra spaces in the ACs and our numbers weren't on target to meet predicted conversion rates, we'd offer the spots to 'amber' people. 'Amber' people who made the cut would also be offered later AC slots if the success rates at the first ACs were poor, or potentially last minute slots from last minute drop outs. 'Red' people got rejected almost immediately after their applications were viewed.

Long story short, if you don't hear back within a week or two after the closing date, it would be a decent assumption that you've been amber-banded, so it could be awhile before you hear back. Straight up rejections from the application would be pretty quick because it will be people who didn't meet the base criteria.

Funny you mentioned this, when I went for an assessment centre recently I noticed some names were highlighted in green, yellow and red. Mine was yellow.

Applied for Motherwell and Bathgate, hopefully will hear back soon. From what I’ve read the process seems to be an assessment centre then interview then second assessment day. Can anyone point me in the direction of finding out what goes on on these three days? I’m new to this forum today. Thanks!

Not specific to ScotRail, but I've found a website called how2become, they've got a section dedicated to train drivers, they also have a cracking selection of YouTube videos too!

How long did you have to wait to hear back regarding the assessment centre?

It varied from a couple of days to more I’ve done a few lol. Done my day 1 & 2 with arriva, day 1 came back in about 5 days I think. Day 2 I found out on the day I failed the VSE. Freightliner had a sort of pre psychometric assessments day ( scaat and raat tests) found out after couple days. Then did my mmi. Waited about 3 days to get result of that.

Ahh sorry I meant how long did you wait in regards from the application to the assessment centre if you were in the yellow bracket?

Ah i see. About a month from submitting for each. Although I guess that yellow could have had a totally different meaning. No way to be sure.

Hi Guys, I got the bad news I’d been unsuccessful today. Applied for Ayr.

They don’t give feedback at this stage but obviously I didn’t quite meet the standard this time.

Was pretty hopeful reading some posts as I work in the gas industry right now and used lots of examples around safety.

don't buy anything from them though. You can find nearly all the info they give by searching these forums

Sorry to hear you never made it through. I work in the Gas Industry and the majority of my examples are from that line of work so I'm not particularly hopeful now. I also sent my application away on Sunday.

Thanks for the heads up, the videos on YouTube are good, but I wouldn't pay just for the convenience of all the practice tests they sell, as you say there are plenty of resources on here :)

Can anyone who attended today clarify the process for us going forward? And if they have let you know when you expect to hear back regarding how you go on today. Thanks

Hi all

I applied for a trainee driver role in Aberdeen. I sent the application on the 21st of June, I think it closed on the 29th. Apart from the standard email thanking me for applying I've not heard anything.

is it likely that I've not been considered? Do they let you know if you've been unsuccessful with your initial online application?

Thanks

They should send you an email saying if you have been unsuccessful
