On a train somewhere in Europe
I don't really get involved in that particular area any more but I guess the yard is mainly used these days for recessing stone traffic and DBS engineers trains.

I have been up to HG couple of days ago as it's just up the road and there is a turntable (Dont know if it's in use) and we have couple of Class 66s some Hanson Class 59s Class 09 Shunters I think 09018,09010,090??.

In the good old days of the Southern Region it use to be very famous but the them days have gone and the last "Crompton" went in 1998!.

These days it deals with servicing and maintaining freight locos and it is a depot for moving freight around the SE.

Also the driver's and loco involved in the Eltham Well Hall crash were allocated from Hither Green TMD.

Yes, there used to be a lot of turntables scattered around in the days of steam.

I was particularly surprised to see one at HG though, especially as they have the triangle facility surrounding the depot which can be used for turns!
