Given the proximity of acton main line to old oak common will this station survive the opening of old oak common?

I would be surprised if it does close given how much they are currently spending on it - platform extensions and a whole new entrance bridge in the middle of the station.

I very much doubt it'd close. It's roughly the same distance as West Ealing to Ealing Broadway. Many stations are closer than that. Usage will rise regardless of OOC.

That's the benefit of modern electric trains, - they can stop regularly with far less impact on overall journey time and the environment than even the most efficient diesel units.

Extremely Unlikely to close. It would be politically unacceptable to close it.

It has 1/3 the amount of entries and exits as west ealing. Also because of the low frequency lf trains serving the station compared to old oak common. For most of the catchment area of acton Main line it will be quicker on a turn up and go basis to walk to ooc.

But that's because the only useful place for most people you can go from it is Paddington, and there are good London Underground connections in the area which serve the purpose of getting into London better. Once Crossrail opens this is bound to change.

Whilst that is true, how many people in the area will do that? Most people don't really think like that. I'd rather wait for an extra few mins to get closer to my house. I wonder how many people jump on a train at Maryland just to change at Stratford...

Indeed, I expect many people who currently use North & West Acton stations for Bond St/TCR/the City/Canary Wharf switch to Acton Main Line. Faster, nicer trains with air con - worth a 5-10 mins extra wait in my eyes. The moving sauna will be mainly for those unfortunate souls who live in suburbia at either end of the line.
