Lost somewhere within Bank-Monument tube station,
I'm spending most of next week travelling around the South West and South Wales, and as an uninformed idiot who lives over the other side of the country in Norwich, I was wondering about what I could expect on my journeys. I have booked or have plans to use the following services:

  • The 1300 GWR service from Paddington to Temple Meads - is this still booked for HSTs or do the 800s rule the roost here.

  • The 0717 GWR service from Temple Meads to Cardiff Central - same question really. :)

  • Are Pacers allocated to specific Valley Lines routes/services, or can they be found on any service?

  • GWR services between Cardiff and Taunton - what is the allocated stock here?

Later in the week I'm visiting Birmingham before heading back to London. I'm booked on the 1830 CrossCountry service between Temple Meads and New Street on Thursday, and I was wondering if this is a service operated by HSTs?

Similarly, the 1705 Chiltern service between Snow Hill and Marylebone on Friday, what is the likelihood of this being operated by a Class 68 with MK3s? :)

The 07:17 will be a 150 (although 158s or 2 x 153 have been known). It begins at Taunton with ecs from Exeter and returns to Plymouth. 153s less likely now as GWR only has 5.

Pacers can appear on any and every Valley Lines Service.

Cardiff - Taunton services will be 166s (though 150/3/8/can sub). The exceptions are the 08:00, 09:00, 13:00 and 17:00 which must be Sprinters as their diagrams continue beyond Taunton at some stage.

The Pacers appear on 'both' valley lines, but there are more on the Rhymney line.

I believe the 1300 is an IET like most of the Bristol services, but the 1400 (ex Weston) is a HST

When the OP mentioned Valley Lines, did it just mean the Cardiff Valleys ? There is a Pacer usually employed on the Maesteg Line and they make the odd journey to Ebbw Vale also.

1300 is an IET
The 0717 is an IET also (The same diagram as the 1300 actually)
Cardiff to Taunton is mainly 166 Turbos now.

The 1830 on Thursday is a booked HST at the moment.
