I lost my Bite Card a few months ago and have now twice requested a new one and also contacted them most recently via the contact form, still with no response and nothing received in the post.

Has anyone else received a Bite Card recently or is this a common occurrence? Whilst I know the discount is pretty poor now, but if using the relevant SSP outlets, money off is better than a kick in the teeth :D

I don't know where mine is and with so little talk about it of late (or any communication from them), I had assumed it had been quietly axed.

The discount had become quite pathetic and as a result I stopped buying anything from some establishments. Maybe an overreaction, but it did prompt me to plan ahead better and hopefully not need to buy something on a station.

So they've lost quite a bit of money in the end.

I ordered a replacement bite card over a month ago as the barcode has rubbed off and the magstripe had become demagnetised making it useless. Still norhing.

They aren't interested in it anymore. I stopped using them entirely when they dropped the discount (They are, pretty much without exception, absolutely rubbish anyway).

Staff at our station make a point of walking past the station outlets (with the exception of one supermarket that doesn't indulge in price scalping) to the ones on the street outside which still offer us a discount and generally are much better in terms of quality and service. I also tell any passengers who ask to go outside and use the A.N.Other facilities available.

It is a pathetic 5% discount now, but I do use mine occasionally

When did that change? Last time I recall hearing of changes was the reduction from 20 to 10%.

Interestingly:
"The scheme is currently closed to new members . Do check back here for further information at a later date"

...so I guess abolition must be looming.

I bailed out when it reduced from 20% TO 10% .. at 5% it's not worth a wank.

Shame it used to be a really good scheme.

I'm not entirely sure - this years sometime maybe? I stopped using it as a matter of course when the discount stopped being 20%, as it become much more cost/time effective to nip out of the station and get something or just not bother at all.

I am always surprised its still accepted on the few occasions when I try it

I asked for a replacement a couple of years ago and never received one so I haven't bothered.

Given that they no longer accept new new members to the scheme, have repeatedly ignored correspondence from existing members over several years now and have reduced the discount to the point that it's nearly an inconvenience to carry the card, it certainly looks as though they just want it to die!

That certainly appears to be the case. At least I know it isn't just me and that other members have also had issues

I used mine for the first time in years a month ago in Cardiff (desperate for a brew and there are no chains near Central station), I only remembered I had it when I flicked past it to get my card. I remember it dropping from 20 to 10 % way back when, but seem to recall this was in conjunction with a new scheme whereby users would get personlised discounts. Needless to say this never saw light of day (imagine the surprise).

That brew in Cardiff was the first time I had been to an Upper Crust in years, and I couldn't believe they now charge upwards of a fiver for their baguettes. They were never cheap obviously but I am sure the mark up was never that high!

I never use SSP establishments, including the SSP Starbucks franchises on stations.
I usually go to Supermarkets or coffee shops like Pret.
BTW the coffee shop between platforms 2 & 4 at Notts is now a SSP brand, it was a very nice indepandent place.

How long ago are you talking? It's been SSP for many years.

Are the Prets SSP on the stations ?

With Marks and Spencers that are SSP operated , ive always noticed a difference in staff .

In a slightly strange turn of events, a Bite Card has arrived in the post this morning (with a letter suggesting 10% discount still) but not with my name on it! It was posted to our address, though!

I don't think Pret is SSP. For one they do the same as other branches where they give random free coffees to people (not sure what the criteria is for that or if the till simply does it?). That said I've not used Pret for some months. I just doubt SSP would do that.

Pret don’t do franchises. Their shops and kiosks on stations are all owned and operated by them.

Which is good to know, and why I'd sooner use them than a SSP operation at a station if I wasn't generally prepared in advance to buy somewhere locally. Buying at a station is very much a last resort with me kicking myself for not planning ahead.

When you got a 20% discount, you still likely overpaid but it at least felt like it was a bit fairer and you paid a little more for the convenience.

I tried to use my bite card at BK at Marylebone station on Saturday but the guy there said they don’t accept them. I thought all BK outlets at stations were part of the deal.
