92038's out with a rake of 16 coaches tonight. Currently working 5Z26 Polmadie - Carlisle.

Paths in for later this evening suggest they're going to be doing a trial split and join at Carstairs

9 more coaches have docked at Tees Port and are due to move to Polmadie in two runs on Thursday and Friday.

I thought I saw somewhere that the Mk5s were due to be introduced in the next few weeks, is that right? Was it on another thread?

I’m going up to Edinburgh mid November and thought I’d try the new sleeper in the return direction - the booking system is showing the new room types (Suite, Club, Classic etc.) but how likely am I actually to get on a new train on 15/11?

They say that the new trains will start running on the Lowlander from 28 October.

A rake of Mk5s being transferred from modifications at Brodies Kilmarnock to Polmadie ran into trouble this afternoon as the computer on the coaches wouldn’t talk to the loco....

Looking like a complete disaster these new sets.
You”re better placed to say whether or not these coaches are shaping up to be trouble (I have heard almost nothing about them) but I just found it interesting and worrying that they were unable to be moved for hours on end due to a TMS fault. I’ve certainly never come across that on coaches with conventional drophead buckeyes and two pipe brakes.

Couldn't they just turn the TMS off and haul them dead? In the same way they were hauled by the ROG 47?

They were delivered as swingers so I’d imagine (given the difficulties that were had yesterday) the TMS has to be working to get a brake pipe.

Sorry... as above a ‘swinger’ is an old railway term for an unbraked vehicle whether by design, intention or otherwise.

Why does the stock need to communicate with the locos?

What "computer" is on the 73?

Seems bonkers they can't just be switched to a basic mode and be hauled as per standard stock. I assume thsat any old random loco cannot move the mk5s unless it has the relevent computer and comms?

They would fall down well before that - the Mk5s have Scharfenberg couplers, not the traditional drawgear that the Mk5as have.
