To save people scanning several other threads for info, thought ideal to put in one place
So to kick off, 002 is on Long Rock as spare until Sunday night when it should be swapped for (187 ?) back into service for a Monday AM PZ departure.IMG_20180914_100116850.jpg

Great idea, I haven't managed to get a decent picture of either yet.

I was just thinking the same - The livery looks far more authentic when worn in and with a coating of grime. :D

Yes, you would almost swear that there is still a Paxman Valenta installed in there wouldn't you!
Although perhaps just lacking the additional oily bodyside deposits.

I still wish they'd done something better with the headlights, it really spoils the look, it would have been lovely if they could have had their original clusters restored. I doubt it'd be possible or approvable these days.

I do see and agree with your point regarding the cosmetic appearance but you've probably answered the question as to why they didn't at the bottom of your post really. TBH the new style of lamp fittings (at least to my eyes) work very well with the current liveries whereas the original style of lamp clusters definitely do suit the earlier colour schemes (including IC Swallow) all just personal opinion of course.

Disagree. I think GWR made a really good job of the headlights on 002. I did wonder how they would deal with it at the time, and thought then they chose the best solution.

Having said that, I really don't get the obsession with the headlights - the front end shape is identical to what it was.

Do you really think a TOC is going to spend a lot of cash on some headlights, just to appease a few enthusiasts.
They've actually done a good job IMO

Thanks for starting this thread, I wouldn't mind getting more shots of 002/185.

Reported elsewhere that 43002 was swapped off its set at Laira last night with 069 going on.

Which has been terminated at Reading due to a fault with the train.
Sat in P9 at Reading at 15:50 (43185 on country end of formation)
