Thanks guys, I’ve got my fingers crossed, I’m also a rugby union referee so maybe that could come in useful? As dealing with safety first and making split second decisions in pressure situations.

Yes and I suppose you deal with conflict sometimes and keep calm, being assertive and supporting others etc. It all comes in handy, I wish you the best of luck :)

Anyone heard anything yet or do you think we will be waiting to see what happens when the franchise changes hands

I have heard the figure 300 mentioned in terms of required new drivers. So an excellent opportunity for those wanting a driving key good luck......

Where have you heard the number 300? What does 300 mean? 300 a year, in total, for the company, for a depot?

All I’ve heard is there will be a course following very closely the last for the foreseeable..... no numbers though.

Tfw are increasing headcount across the entire TOC by 600, up from the current 2200. This is proportionately obviously a large increase but it's probably safe to say that 50% of those jobs won't be extra drivers.

Invites for telephone interviews for crewe being released. . Just got mine!
Likewise. I'm (rightly or wrongly) surprised by the format.... Telephone interview, then face to face...then assessment.
Anyone familiar with this set up?

Hi all, first time user!

I have just heard from Cardiff for a telephone interview. I recently passed a telephone interview for Shrewsbury but failed main interview. I didn't think I would get through again as I had failed interview. I have 17 years experience as a Firefighter in my former life. I thought I had done well in interview as I had prepared for most of the questions that came up, but alas I was obviously missing something.
I did notice during interview that there were approx. 10 words at bottom of each question that they were ticking off as you mentioned them. I very much got the impression it was more important to cover these buzzwords as opposed to the quality of your answer.

so, my question is, has anybody got any idea what the buzzwords are apart from safety critical and customer focused?? lol

For example; effective decision making, conscientious, assertive, self motivated. They are called non technical skills, a full list will be on the internet somewhere :)

Nice one,
I thought I had covered all those areas! so left scratching my head a little!
I will just start the process over again and hopefully build on what I did before.

Thanks again for your input, much appreciated ;)

Non technical skills cover about 30 different things. None of which I was aware of when I had my interview and passed a few years ago. They would have been important as our driver course was basically learning them with a bit of rules thrown in every once in a while!! I honestly wouldn’t concentrate on them too much. It’s not “buzz words” they’re after, it’s qualities. And how you answer the questions is very important.

The interviews are impossible to gauge. Some people think they do brilliantly and fail, others think they were poor and pass. Only thing I can think of is think of STARR when you answer each question. Sometimes it’s not appropriate but it’s a good base to work from.

Thank you,

I did try and use the STAR acronym the best I could, hopefully second time lucky!
I wish the assessment day was before the interviews!

Appreciated

Unsuccessful....but it’s so weird because it says: external - customer service specific....anyone know what that even means
