I wondered why I came across this when on the 10:15 from Oxford to Birmingham New Street (for Bournville) yesterday. Thanks for answering what I thought was a bit of a mystery !

Yes, it causes me to do a double take on those rare occasions when I see an HST set stabled at Tyseley!

Does anyone know why there is a XC HST at Tyseley today? It only had one Power Car on the set so there could be a problem with the other one.
1S51 activated the Bromsgrove Wheelchex on Monday, all pax detrained onto 1S53 behind it and forward at 20mph. So only place it could really go was Tyseley tbh. Long way to Derby at 20mph.

Evening, Rail UK Forumers

Starting at the end of October, I'll be working in Plymouth for four to five weeks and will be travelling there from Durham or Newcastle on Mondays and home again on Fridays.

Obviously, I have a choice of journeys - direct via Cross Country or via London on LNER and GWR.

Time and price wise, they're pretty similar (Work is paying anyway) Normally, I'd rather save the faff of changing trains and lugging a heavy bag across London and just go direct, despite it taking a bit longer. However, I can't think of anything worse than sitting on a Voyager for eight hours straight with my 6'3" frame so I'm having trouble deciding which one to go for.

So, my question is: Is there a way to tell when the Cross Country HST will be running? If I can get the HST instead of the Voyager, I'll be more than happy to go direct. If it's a choice between lugging a big bag across London or eight hours on a Voyager, it's London all the way! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Isn’t there a 3 week blockade of Filton Bank from 27th October. That’ll presumably lengthen journey times and alter the HST operated trains anyway. That alone might be a good reason to go via Paddington...

125 Group have XC diagrams here: http://www.125group.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/HST-Diags-XC.pdf

The only problem is weekends are a bit up in the air (I'm still awaiting confirmation for 20th October as people are posting conflicting information) but weekdays are much more reliable.

Can I just check, Yorkie, is this the train that arrives in Plymouth at 17:42 on Sunday 28 October: XC802 1V56 0908 EDB-PLY 1742 ?

If so, that's the one I was planning to get!

Edit: Doesn't look like there are any suitable ones Mon-Fri :(

The 20th has no engineering works so should be the usual diagrams.
The weekend before has amended diagrams via Newport (BPW blockade)
The weekend after has amended diagrams via Swindon (Filton blockade)

Can anyone confirm whether the 1224 PLY - EDI is a HST on the 4th November?

No don’t think so as Usually 1325 is a HST. 1224 is a double voyagers.

As it stands at moment the 1224 Plymouth Edinburgh should be an HST...... Note its diverted between Bristol TM & Cheltenham Spa via Bath Spa Swindon & Kemble Stroud to Cheltenham Spa

1V50 06:06 Edinburgh - Plymouth taken out of service at Bromsgrove this afternoon due to a fault, leaving a very busy solo voyager working the next Plymouth bound service. I was at Cheltenham Spa heading south, so got caught in all the resulting disruption. It looks like CrossCountry have managed to source a spare voyager to work 1E63 15:25 Plymouth - Leeds though.

Oh dear. Down to two sets now unless the one at Tyseley is fixed. I would imagine the 1525 set has come from half of the 1325 is that should be a double set.

It certainly looks that way, as the 13:25 off Plymouth was reported in JourneyCheck as being formed of 4 carriages vice 8 carriages.

It's actually the same set as failed at Bromsgrove on Monday: No idea when it made it back to Craigentinny. Totally different fault and I don't know if the same power cars were involved.

Diagrams are all over the place atm. As of right now there are several Voyagers out of use and a HST set.

Hello there. How come the Friday 13:07 Edinburgh to Plymouth service isn't showing on the diagram sheet on the 125 Group website?

Obviously I'm pleased that this means I might have a 2nd trip, earlyish 2019, to York where I hopefully catch an HST on the return via Birmingham New Street (15:45ish departure) back to Oxford.

I've never been north of Penrith (August 2008 with family by car when on holiday in Blackpool with Mum) and before the 23/03/18 my last trip on an HST from the north I'm 99.9% sure was a connecting (from Blackpool North) Virgin XC service from Preston back to Oxford around 17/18 years!

So you can imagine how happy I must have been on the 23/03/18 to be on an HST from as North as York and sit through Leeds and Wakefield Westgate for the first time, and alight at Birmingham New Street from one !

My early train trips were no further north than Preston (to and from Oxford via Birmingham New Street / Manchester Piccadilly). Preston was where Mum and I (from the southern direction) changed for Blackpool North. My first train trip I'm also 99.9% sure was on an HST in around 1995/1996.

Not sure why. 1307 Edinburgh-Plymouth booked Fridays only a HST

And (sorry) this is now? If so, I hope it achieves the 21:39 arrival time into Plymouth (21:46 last time) :) !

The 125group website hasn't been updated. Also you won't get a HST York to Oxford.
