The alloa line is completely wired whilst Stirling itself is wired through most of the lines as far south as bannockburn apparently.

Meanwhile, line is wired as far North as bridge of Allan and masts are starting to appear in dunblane. Correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not from the stirling area as going by what other people are saying on scot-rail.co.uk

Took a walk earlier, the gap in the masts around Cowie is now filled with TTC's and catenary strung. Hope the project is back to turn the muddy ploughed field back into a navigable walkers path before too much longer after the utilities diversions.

Will be in Stirling tomorrow so will try and see whats happening in the station area.

At the new footbridge at St Ninians LC the Perth bound line is fully wired including the contact wire but the Larbert bound line doesnt have the contact wire yet.

At the overbridge over the Bannock Burn a bit further South though both lines have the contact wire as far as I could see.

Catenary and contact are now up on both roads through Bridge of Allan, finishing just short of Kippenross Tunnel.

As a Dunblane commuter it is good to see the end in sight, despite this week of long journeys to work by car and much disruption in the last few years .

It is however bitter sweet. Given the dawning realisation that for us , new trains and the new timetable will deliver fewer direct journeys , less peak time capacity and slower journeys . Not what we were all told was the new dawn of Scotlands best ever railway. Feeling very let down by the Scotrail Alliance . I hope the timetable will be revised to at least no worse than what we have . If electrification beyond the obvious benefits of cleaner and more reliable trains is to be justified , it cant be just a few minutes saved for Glasgow Edinburgh commuters , but no improvements for others on the routes electrified?

Alloa line still has a gap at the Stirling end - from Causewayhead Junction over the Forth Viaduct. The new LED signals at Stirling North appear to have been commissioned.

Was out for some shopping earlier on and took a chance to check on St Ninians LC again. All droppers now in place and contact wire in place on both lines.

The drove past the station and although I couldn't stop, could see that the insulators are now in place at the end of P10. Lots of orange jackets on P10 and P4 & 5 and a Unimog or similar on the P4 / 5 lines on the N side of the Shore Road bridge (I think - could have been on the Alloa lines).

And slightly off topic for this but road signs being fitted to the Kerse Road bridge so all looking good for it re-opening on Friday.

Thanks for the updates there, I'll get that in for tomorrow's mini-update.

Wandered over the glass bridge at Stirling station today and all lines bar the Down (P3) had full OLE in place through the station. P3 had catenary and droppers but a drum carrier and 3 MEWP's passed so probably fully completed by now.

Kippenross Tunnel wires are installed on Furrer and Frey cantilevers, not ROCS (conductor bars).

Alloa branch now appears completely wired. As well as the LED signals at Stirling North, the starter on the Perth line has a banner repeater (the signal has been moved several hundred metres nearer Dunblane than the original semaphore position).

Kerse Road opened today:

https://www.networkrail.co.uk/feeds/network-rail-opens-8m-stirling-railway-bridge-early/

Network Rail today (Friday 19 October) opened Kerse Road bridge in Stirling a week earlier than planned.

The A905 Kerse Road has been closed since April while engineers demolished and replaced the road bridge over the railway to the south of Stirling station.

The project is part of a wider Scottish government-funded investment being delivered by Network Rail ahead of the electrification of the route this winter.

The new £8m structure has delivered a significant increase in the width of the bridge offering the potential for the council to enhance the carriageway in line with Stirling’s needs – and in keeping with the city’s transport strategy.

Baillie Chris Kane, along with two of the city’s elders, 100-year old Mrs Mary Cooper and 92-year old Mrs Betty Imrie, were on-hand to officially re-open the structure.

Iain McFarlane, Network Rail’s route delivery director, for the Stirling-Dunblane-Alloa (SDA) electrification project said: “The reconstructed bridge at Kerse Road enables the electrification of the rail lines through Stirling but also delivers a stronger and wider structure which will stand the city in good stead for many years to come.

“We understand the impact this closure had for road users, businesses and communities adjacent to the site, but we have worked proactively with Stirling Council to minimise disruption and maintained close communication with the wider community to update on progress throughout.

“We have been heartened by the positive feedback we have received from those impacted by the work who understand that this scale of investment cannot be delivered without some degree of disruption.

“We thank everyone for their patience while we carried out this important work.”

Just to expand on this, the “Starter” for Stirling North is now the former SN38 (now SN39) which was the Bridge of Allan Down IB Home - I understand that’s been the case for some time. The relocated/renewed SN37 now has, as stated, a banner repeater.

Hopefully something is on the way for EK and Barrhead though i think it might just be more 156s !

It certainly sounds like infrastructure improvements are being developed:

“Transport Scotland, Network Rail and ScotRail are working together closely to develop plans that will deliver better resilience, more capacity, reduced emissions and major passenger benefits during the coming years. Detailed work has already commenced to assess the most economic means of delivering those outcomes and this will involve on site surveys to inform decisions about how best to proceed.”

Platform extensions to take 8 x 23m coaches would be a good start that would also be useful even once you have doubled and electrified the line. Could be relatively quick and simple to achieve as well.

8 x 23m should really be the new standard operating length for the busier lines in the Central Belt. E-G via Falkirk and Glasgow - Ayr are based on that now so any platform lengthening or enhancements on busier lines should be using that as a minimum to aim for.
