The Class 60 Preservation Group are happy to announce that we shall be taking part in a sponsored walk during 2009. The dates of the walk are Saturday the 4th April through to Tuesday 7th April. The walk is to raise funds not only for the Class 60 Preservation Group Fund, but shall also be donating a good amount to a charity, nominated by us as the RSPCA.
We are also very proud indeed to have onboard as official sponsor, Rail Express Magazine. So my thanks and appreciation go out to everyone involved with this popular magazine, and look forward to there support!
The planned walk is roughly 109 miles and expected to take no more than 4 days. The interesting part is the fact we have no roads to follow, no muddy fields, just 99% canal towpath. the other 1% being the only hill on the circular route that bypasses a tunnel only accessable to boat users.
Also, to our advantage, around 1/4 of the route follows very busy railway lines, including the WCML, so plenty of photo opportunities there!
To boat users, the route is known as the 4 Counties Ring, so that will also be the name of our route taken. The four counties visited being Shropshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire & The West Midlands. The begining & end of the walk shall be Stoke on Trent.
On the route there are some magnificent views, scenery and the like. The time of year the walk is taking place should produce some stunning colours, and newborn livestock also.
Another highhlight of the route is that it is almost completly flat, so should save us a few aches.
Currently 7 group members are taking part, so should you wish to sponsor us we shall be very gratful indeed, especially as all funds go towards two great causes. On completion of then walk pictures shall be displayed showing us at significant locations, and we shall also be witnessed at many points along the route to make sure that there is no cheating!
If you would like to sponsor us, no matter how small the amount, then please visit us at

Many Thanks
