Apologies if this has already been picked up elsewhere, but it seems that the splitting of TPE's Leeds to Manchester Picc stopping service at Huddersfield from the new timetable is not the only change. I have been told that it will be operated by Northern 170's, with Northern drivers and TPE guards from Piccadilly.

Does this mean just the Leeds - Huddersfield service? The Northern drivers will have to be from Leeds. Do they have route knowledge, Huddersfield - Manchester?

The southern portion is still 185s Geoff with TPE crew. I dont think Northern are having anything to do with it except for the trains. All the crews on both sides will be TPE (up to now).

Although TPE drivers used to sign 170s, all competencies have lapsed. No training on 170s, it is meant to be Northern drivers on them.

I believe the 170s won't be with TPE long. Probably until the Mk5a's finally come into service, when some 185s are freed up.

They won't be with TPE at all, they're just they're the most suitable stock Northern have to operate the service on TPE's behalf... a pint of Magic Rock says 158s and even 155s will crop up at times!

The TPE guards will need training on the Northern traction so it will have to be Class 170s(if it's deemed that's the Class of traction hired in)as they won't sign any other Northern Traction.

Northern will be even more short of drivers. Not all the June service cuts have been reinstated, e.g. Man Vic - Stalybridge is still hourly.

Just had an email come through confirming that Piccadilly Conductors will be undertaking traction training on 170's.

The same email is begging York and Scarborough Conductors to check if they have any KABA or no. 8 keys in their possession. Oh dear.

How come Picc conductors? Odd that conductors from the western side will be crewing services on the eastern side of Huddersfield.
Are Picc conductors the only conductors that do the stoppers?

Currently stopper work is split between Picc and York Conductors. (Services from Hull are also worked by Hull Conductors too.

Edit: The above is for booked diagrams. Spare Conductors at other depots that sign the route will occasionally pick up the odd train too. (At least 1 Newcastle Conductor recently worked a stopper off spare)

Because the only depots that ever signed 170s when TPE had them were Hull, Piccadilly, Airport, Sheffield, Cleethorpes. No other depot ever signed 170s.

Hull depot is too small and not ideally placed to be able to provide enough crew to work all the 170 services between Leeds and Huddersfield.

York depot is too big to start training on 170s from scratch.

Piccadilly (along with Sheffield and Cleethorpes) was also one of the last depots to sign and work them right up to the time they left, and is just the right size to be able to "refresh" knowledge on the majority of the depot, who worked them previously, and start afresh for those that didn't.

And yes, the majority of the stopping train diagrams are worked by Piccadilly (and Hull) conductors. Airport and York get an occasional look in.

First Huddersfield's 200 is worthy of note at 12 minutes, effectively a positioning move to get vehicles between the depot and bus station.
