Saw a LNER livery 800/1 in Leeds station at around 17:15 - seems to be a regular run for these now.

Yes, although bimode this week and EMU last week. They seem to be using the paths of the diagram that was withdrawn in August, which is a decent idea.

Is the 'RAIL' magazine website correct in that basically the LNER East Midlands Trains / NL65 weekday diagrams will be the first Azuma services?

I think EMT are hoping so as I think they're wanting to increase capacity on the 19:01 out of St. Pancras - unless this is a 9 or 10-car Meridian.

Either way the extra HST will be a great help if it's returning to EMT from LNER after 3 years!

Yes, correct.

1A12 0700 HUL - KGX
1D11 1103 KGX - LDS
1A33 1345 LDS - KGX
1H10 1718 KGX - HUL
1J10 2028 HUL - DON

That doesn't necessarily mean the set will return to EMT though, at least initially.

It’s not an EMT set, and like the rest of the LNER HSTs, is on lease to LNER until the end of 2019.

Anyone know the status of the safety taliban embargo on the LNER 800s due to the potential use of the coach interconnecting cables as a ladder to the roof. Has it been revoked or have mods been done. How come GW wasn't affected.

It does cover the GWR 80x. The only difference is that GWR 80x were already in service.

All IETs will arrive with stock Hitachi seats. The plans are to rip them off and replace them with the seats which were already ordered by virgin. GWR did the same.
GWR just have their own seat fabric on the 802s which were specified by themselves rather than the DfT (the 802s are also painted green rather than vinyled).

Apologies if this has already been asked, but when will we start to see HST's and some 91's coming out of service due to the arrival of 80x's?

It depends on when the 80xs get introduced.
It's slightly different to the GWR introduction where LNER aren't so commited to off lease dates.
Logically it makes sense to replace the 91s on Leeds & Newark diagrams first.
I'd expect this to happen a month or so after the Hull diagram goes over.

As far as I know originally it was meant to be HSTs first from the beginning of next year, and 91s towards the end of next year. Given the delays, however, and some Mk4s being spoken for versus, as far as I know, no future use for the LNER HSTs, I imagine it's quite likely a few of the 91s will go while there are still HSTs in service unless the rollout really is very rapid in H2 2019.

On the issue of interference with signalling by 80x's in electric mode, Rail magaine 865 p. 23 says that according to a Network Rail source,

(1) it occurs south of York as well as north, and

(2) "Hitachi has accepted that a train-borne solution is required. The plan is to design and install copper inductors under the motor vehicles, to reduce the electromagnetic currents by at least 50%. It is hoped that the first tests will be carried out in January."

That seems a bit of a cop-out. It's clearly an infrastructure problem as they were able to resolve it trackside on the Great Western, but rather than deal with substandard infrastructure every train (which will include Transpennine & Hull Train's 802s, and potentially other new stock serving the line in future) needs to be modified. Presumably the taxpayer foots the bill in the case of the LNER units, but who's paying for the work to be done on the other operators' units?

The GWML problem was, I believe, fairly localised. Perhaps the ECML issue is more widespread and modifying the trains is a cheaper/quicker option? However it may also be that the pattern of electromagnetic emissions from the Class 80x trains may be more troublesome than expected, even if they are within specification. It might make sense to modify the trains, at least in the short term, including the GWR units.

I can't see them being willing to spend modifying the GWR units when they'll never anticipate use, which means they're no longer transferable elsewhere as they'd need to be modified beforehand. It may be a more expedient solution but it seems like the wrong solution long-term to me.

Could be expensive and time consuming. I suppose the question is who pays.

Went through Peterborough on electric
There are a few 800s running today.800201 went from Heaton to Peterborough this morning, I took a photo of it running with pantographs down between Durham and Darlington. It's due to make some trips between Peterborough, York and Doncaster and then return to Heaton at about 9:15 pm. 5Q31 etc. is running between Leeds, Doncaster and Kings Cross too. 800201.jpg
