In this case the Guildford - Clapham Jn ticket is explicitly routed "Not Via London", so the easement is not relevant to that ticket. Are you saying that a Clapham Jn - Croydon ticket is valid at Waterloo or Victoria? If so that would seem to be a rather large loophole for anyone commuting from Croydon to London.

Not a bug; there are long standing doubleback easements allowing doublebacks between Clapham Junction and Victoria (Easement 700013) and Waterloo (Easement 700014) respectively.
I'm sure one can't use that on the Clapham Junction to Croydon single. The Guildford to Clapham single is not valid via London terminals.

An easement is only "not applicable" to a ticket routed Not via London if it is encoded in such a way that it only applies to particular routeings.

There are loopholes everywhere!

However arguably an easement to allow an otherwise invalid double-back can be argued to not permit starting/finishing 'short' (but that's a whole debate in itself)

No, because Easement 700013 does not include "ANY PERMITTED" in the list of routes the fare must have to permit a doubleback. So it can't be used to go via Victoria (nor start short there).

Trying to help my friend get back from Southport or Manchester to Newcastle today at short notice. There seem to be Advance tickets on TPE coming up. I didn’t know TPE did same day Advances. Is this correct?

I see Northern also offer 'same day' for some journeys. Referred to as 'Save on the Day' in the tickets section of their website.

Everyone loves a bargain! We want to make it easier for you to save, this is why we are introducing cheap last minute tickets which are available to buy 15 minutes before departure on some routes.

You can now buy great value Advance Train Tickets (one way single) on the day of travel, but we have limited availability so you must be quick! Our new fares give you great savings even when travelling last minute, so enjoy our cheap train tickets & explore spontaneously with us.

These tickets are available to buy via Northern App, online and at stations but they are not available on all Northern services or routes. Don’t miss out, once they’re gone, they’re gone!

You still get all the benefits of an Advance ticket:

  • You have the power to choose the lowest available price for each leg of your journey
  • You book to travel at your specified time
  • It's cost effective
  • Railcard and child discounts apply to all Advance fares

That rather defeats the object, all the "must be quick as there is limited availability". If you don't know you need to travel until the last minute, i.e. same day, then you are not going to delay buying them are you?

Yeah - just to confirm that we do sell these as well. Particularly where they undercut some of the faster cross-Pennine routes so get offered as cheaper alternatives.

Just wanted to say thank you to whoever programmes the ticket confirmation emails. They are excellent and very easy to follow, giving exact details of timings, which operators’ trains you’re booked on, easy to follow seat numbers, and everything you could need to know (except for platform numbers, but that is obviously beyond even the expertise of TrainSplit!).

It’s worth using this website just for the helpful guidance, never mind the savings, and would be a huge asset for anyone not very confident about travelling.

I've now switched to Trainsplit for all bookings except for RSH/Tesco. Why?
A single reference so no multiple card inserts and codes
A simple and easy to understand confirmation.
Easy to use.
I used to spend days researching splits, creating complicated spreadsheets etc and don't have to do that any more.

Thanks for this amazing webpage/software

For some reason when I try to download the Android App google tells me "you are not allowed to download this app in your country" .(Australia)

Is this intended or just an oversight?

That's correct. The intermationalisation requirements for apps are onerous, regrettably. So we're not planning to release it to any market other than the UK for the moment.

You're welcome. Platform numbers are actually really easy, but we're not going to display them ahead of time because (a) they are very likely to change from the booked one and (b) the DARWIN live data feed doesn't allow display of platform numbers in many cases until they are confirmed (for example at some London terminals, they like to "prepare" the train before making the platform number available.

You can click on the train in your confirmation and it will give you live running information, including platform numbers where we're allowed to show them.

Good grief, I didn't realise that. There's no end to the tricks on there :D .

In that case thanks for making the mobile site so good. Perhaps the app is a bit better, but the mobile site is really an excellent piece of work for us Johnny Foreigners. Thank you!

Hey guys, just a heads up.

I was trying to book tickets from Tamworth to Steeton & Silsden using a 2 Together card on 25th Nov. It found a nice split en-route for the advance tickets, but for the Leeds to Steeton leg it insisted on using a Duo ticket at £11, rather than a regular pair of singles with the railcard which would be £7.

Even when I just tried to book this leg separately it would not come up with the £7 option.

Interesting. Yes, it would appear that Northern have made some changes in an attempt to stop the sale of tickets with Dales Railcards which have caused some issues for us. We'll have a fix out very soon. Sorry about that, and thanks for the heads-up.

Hey @SickyNicky any luck adding first class tickets? This is fairly basic functionality that a year old app should. Thanks.:?::s
Out of curiosity, any particular reason why you don't use the mobile website? I find it very easy to use and it'll gives you the choice of 1st class.

Click on the 1st Class icon at the top of the screen, next to the Fixed Time etc. buttons.

Edit: Oh sorry, didn't realise they weren't using the normal site that has 1st.

On the app, once you have the list of prices click on the filter icon at the top right. This will allow you to select first class.
If you don't see the filter icon, go to the app store and update the app - the Android version was only updated a couple of days ago.

Why is it that the app seems to show more journey options than the website?

Because the website is grouped into Fast, Popular and Value, but the app manages to show them all in one view. We're working on ways to improve the website right now.

On the advise of the forum experts I have tried to use Trainsplit to obtain an "itinerary" in addition to cheap tickets. I fail miserably every time however! Happy to accept this is "user error" but without knowing the correct answer, where do I go from here? Example from yesterday (21/01/2019):

Friday 15th March travelling from Horsham (HRH) to Kidderminster (KID) and returning to HRH same day; arriving KID 1040 and departing at 1910. Cost with Network Railcard should be around £51.30. Had a go on Trainsplit and it came back with £70.xx at which point I gave up.

Should I try inputting two single journeys? Clearly the outward price is always going to be different to the return on a weekday.
Can Trainsplit cope with a Railcard in one direction only? I stumbled over the ability of gwr.com being able to do this!

Thanks for any advise/tips to get what I want :)
