Only just spotted the email from LNER about their seat sale. Glad I did, seeing it finishes tomorrow. I bagged myself a return journey from Peterborough to Edinburgh for £45 (standard out and first return) for February 7th.

Try splitting your search at Peterborough, as the cost of using two tickets is the same as using just the through ticket from Kings Cross (£5 for KGX to PBO and £15 for PBO to EDB). Of course, this only works for services that stop at Peterborough.

Thanks for that, appreciated.
Just went to have a look and through fares actually now showing. Cheers again.

You can do that already by "splitting".

I was quite happy with the £24.05 return (walk-up fare) I paid from Reading to Bath Spa on Saturday, rather than the £45.70 it would usually cost. This on its own was a £21.65 (47%) saving. If I was even more savvy, the journey would have cost a mere £19.70 (saving £26 - 57%) , using other options. If I was eligible for one of the national railcards (16-25, senior, HM, etc), the journey could have be done for a princely £13 - saving a massive £32.70 (71%).

Even with GWR "special offers" would you be able to do this journey for less?

I want to redeem some of my Tesco Vouchers to buy train tickets before Xmas using Redspottedhanky.com . I have done it several times before, but I get this on the Tesco Clubcard page for the link ..
This product is currently unavailable. We are working with the partner to bring the product back in the coming days.
I just wondered what the problem is and has anybody else had this problem ?
The Redspottedhanky.com site is running , cant see any problem ..

Northern still seem to be making it hard to take advantage of their offers.

Planning on using a £10 ranger tomorrow, but website says offer not on (Paper says on until 27th November).

Anyone got a copy of the Johnston Press form?

And can I confirm validity is from 0845?

I believe the last day of travel for the offer was Sunday 25th November.

Hopefully they'll do this offer again in January/February next year.

Bump

Just a heads-up that Nectar is offering 'half points back' on LNER redemptions until 19 December. I think this is a targeted offer, so check your account.

If you have it, it's a rare opportunity to get 1p value from a Nectar point, as opposed to 0.5p.

Just put this one here.

On this evening's Hull Executive just been handed a voucher for 30% off my next three journeys with LNER. That'll come in handy. Might ask others if they want theirs.

Via Money Saving Expert, another go at the Skyscanner £5 discount for new users:

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-train-tickets/#needtoknow-5

It's better known for flights, but you can now also book train tickets via the Skyscanner* app – and we've blagged £5 off a £15+ spend for the first 2,500 people who use the code MSEDEC. The deal ends when the code's been used 2,500 times or at 11.59pm on Monday 31 December, whichever's first – but it's likely to be popular, so go quick.

You'll need to book via the app – to be eligible, you can't have booked train tickets via the Skyscanner app previously. You can use the code against the purchase of one or more train tickets, so long as the total cost is £15+.

The discount applies to all routes in England, Scotland and Wales (but not Northern Ireland), and to all ticket types apart from season tickets. You can combine it with railcards and any other deals or discounts offered by individual train firms. You can book as far in advance as you want, provided tickets have been released. Skyscanner doesn't charge booking fees.

How to get £5 off
1. If you haven't already, download the Skyscanner* app, which is available for Android and iOS devices.

2. Open the app and tap on the 'Trains' icon, then search for your journey, adding in any railcards you have etc.

3. At the checkout, tap on 'My Vouchers' and enter the code MSEDEC. Tap 'Apply' and £5 will be deducted from the total at the bottom of the checkout screen. (If you don't already have a Skyscanner account, this is where you'll be asked to register for free.) You can then pay via credit or debit card.

Works with Railcard discount too.

Is it only valid on a single 'journey'?

The email says up to 18 tickets:

Use your exclusive PIN above to get 25% off the price off Standard and First Class CrossCountry Advance tickets. Tickets can be bought from 10 December 2018 until 23:59 on 3 February 2019, for travel between 7 January and 4 February 2019 (inclusive). The discount only applies to First Class and Standard CrossCountry Advance single tickets purchased through the CrossCountry site (desktop or mobile) and Train Tickets app. The discount is only available for the e-Ticket fulfilment option. Advance tickets are subject to availability and the discount will be applied to a maximum of 18 tickets per transaction. The discount can be used in conjunction with a Railcard. Further terms and conditions apply

Skyscanner are offering £3 off any UK rail tickets costing £15 or more when referred by a "friend" (referrer also gets £3 and they don't charge any booking fees). I can refer anyone who is interested who is interested as I'm sure many other members here can. :D

EDIT: Just noticed there is a better offer posted above. £5 off with code MSEDEC.

Don't panic if LNER points have disappeared from your Nectar account

MSE said:
Nectar card-holders have had thousands of points wiped from their accounts after buying tickets from London North Eastern Railway, MoneySavingExpert can reveal – but if you're affected, the issue should be resolved later today.

Dozens of customers who have used or collected Nectar points with London North Eastern Railway (LNER) in the past few weeks have reported finding that points – in some case totalling thousands – have been taken from their accounts, for no clear reason.

Nectar has confirmed that a "system error" caused some customers to lose points, and LNER has confirmed that they will go back into customers' accounts today.
