Are any GWR power cars going off lease with no future work?

The issue at present is probably more about what warranty MTU will give with overhauled engines. There will also be plenty of spares when power cars start going for scrap.
Hi,

Are all the Class 43 HSTs all being cascaded or are any heading to be off-lease?

41 GWR and all LNER power cars have no future leases for them.
Seems odd given the number of overcrowded trains. Thought they'd be snapped up by e.g. Cross Country

HSTs struggle to work Voyager timetables?

I think it's the expense of converting all trailers to modern accessibility standards, e.g. power doors.

Yes, with the cancellations and overcrowding on Northern services it does seems crazy.

I can see that loco hauled carriages with end doors are hardly ideal for some services but surely anything is better than the current overcrowding. Northern desperately needs more capacity.

HST's really wouldn't work on Northern services.

The Crosscountry direct award only runs until October 2019 (With an option for an extra year) and was agreed on the basis of the only additional stock into the franchise being the two 'spare' Voyager driving vehicles to permit 2 x 5-car units to become 3 x 4-cars. The current postponement of the Crosscountry franchise competition only adds to the uncertainty.

Plus as far as I am aware, available power cars from GWR have only recently begun coming off lease: Scotrail require almost half the former GWR power cars and a fair proportion of the coaching stock, and making that available according to schedule in the face of a delayed IET introduction programme has been a priority. And as noted above, any HST sets are likely to require extensive PRM work to operate beyond 31/12/2019, and Wabtec already have their hands full delivering on their existing contracts.

No power cars have left GWR yet other than the ScotRail fleet. “Yet” being the key word.

Ah, cheers for that. I'm aware that Scotrail seem to have a lot of power cars knocking around, wasn't sure if they'd received them all yet, or whether GWR had sent any if their others off lease.

All 54 ScotRail power cars have transferred over but not all are off GWR property yet: 43030/034/151 are still at Laira, along with 43149 which GWR have been contracted to undertake a G exam on.
