hi all

so Farringdon is not a London terminal for ticketing purposes - but the Key smartcard i have for my local station (hitchin) to 'london terminals' opens the gates. is this just an error in the gate software and I am risking a fine (for section of journey between st pancras and farringdon) or is it an allowed route/exit?

for years I have walked from kings cross to office in farringdon, getting season ticket upgraded to farringdon as destination rather than kings cross/st pancras (i.e. london terminals) is another £1k, so I'm assuming software error.

any thoughts?

I make about £320 more myself are you sure ?
I wonder if the OP was comparing the outboundary travelcard, and you are looking at the relatively new (May 2018) fare for Hitchin to London Thameslink.

Just a guess, but I wonder if it is being publicised at all...

Farringdon is definitely not a London Terminal, so you are risking a penalty fare. The ticket you would need is for destinations London Thameslink - which in my case is the same price as London Terminals....

I would also suggest double checking which ticket you actually have loaded.

Could it be a London Thameslink ticket loaded in error?

Thanks. Hitchin annual ticket to London terminals is £3944, the hitchin to ‘city thameslink’ is definitely new since I renewed at £4264. Seems strange the gate opens at Farringdon with the cheaper ticket though.

How would I check? Sorry if it’s obvious to others, but not to me!

It was introduced in May to give similar validity from the GN as stations on the Midland Mainline side already had, ie beyond St Pancras as far as London Bridge and Elephant and Castle in the south. But just to emphasise it is to London Thameslink, not City Thameslink, which is only an individual station.

Thanks, checked and ticket loaded onto smart card is Hitchin-London terminals. So must just be gate error that it lets me out at Farringdon.
