Saw two SWR-liveried 442s in Fratton this morning. One had complete livery including first class lining and disabled access door signs, the other the almost-finished version.
Potentially the same pair that have been in use for driver training for a few weeks, there’s been a few photos (including at Fratton)in the main 442 thread. At least one is not yet modified internally, I saw them through Fareham last week, and noticed First markings in the middle car as per GatEx.

At least one is different; the pair I saw for the past few weeks has been one half-liveried and one plain grey.

2410 and 2414 are the two at Fratton. 2413 will also be out and about this week and is also in full SWR colours

The pictures I've seen of one of them had only the seat frames in place, no cushions.

Interesting that the fully refurbished 450 has the original First Class seats. I thought they wanted to standardise the First Class seating on the new style 2+2 seats used on the refurbished 444?

Any pics of the former First Class/Guard's Office area on the 450?

Replacement of the First Class seats in the 450s has never been mentioned AFAIK.

So do first class passengers go to one end of the train, find first class is full there then have to walk down 4 3+2 carriages to get to the next first segment. I know this layout is used on other stock but is that the way it works? Does first really ever get full outside of peaks?
It is a better way of doing it for both first and standard passengers as previously on an 8 car set FC was in cars 2 or 3 and 6 or 7. So it was pot luck which way round they turned up for all passengers. Now it is the outer ends of cars 1, 4, 5 and 8 and will always be in the same place.

I agree. The Compin seats are comfortable by today's standards and any replacement would have probably been worse.

Almost certainly an assumption based on no evidence. As I said a few days ago why would they bother when they could choose the best condition 2000 seats from the 3000 they already have.

I agree, although the new leather seat covers are far worse in my opinion anyway!

In addition to that;

444019 is currently having its interior done

450015, 450113, 450115 & 450122 now have the new and altered interior, with first class by both cabs.
I've just seen 113, 015 and 122 in a single formation entering Waterloo. 015 still has the blue dots above the former 1st class area.

Have any now got a traditional yellow stripe above the new 1st class sections? Haven’t seen one in the wild yet...

I was on 113 yesterday. The First Class seats are much darker than the ones where the compartment hasn't been moved.

I don't know if this is the right thread but it is a kind of refurbishment of sorts.

I noticed a 455 had WiFi today. Later on I travelled on another service and that had WiFi too. Whilst it could be the same rolling stock it probably isn't.

They say half their trains have WiFi and look for signs on board but I can't see any signs.

The WiFi name is: SWR-FREE-WIFI. As it's not the same name as other SWR trains WiFi, I didn't notice it was avilable. Not sure how long is been going.

If your on a 455 or even 456, check out your WiFi as you might be pleasantly surprised.

I prefer the layout of the sign on to this WiFi compared to the 450/444. Every clickable option is viable by default.

This is a wonderful improvement and before I read they were going to do this, which I think was some months ago, unexpected improvement.

I noticed that the equipment had been fitted about a month ago, but wasn't working, but the Wi-Fi has been working on every 455 and 456 I've tried it on over the last few days.

That's interesting, because SWT claimed it wasn't possible to fit WiFi to them!

I hadn't remembered that, even if I'd ever known that. I seem to remember it coming up on here and possibly being dismissed as an idea.

Well it clearly is possible.

Im fairly confident they won't be retrofitting toilets to the trains though! For those one will have to wait for the next trains.

Ive noticed wifi on the 455s as well, a few months ago only very few 455s had it but now it seems all of them have it. However I would say the wifi on the desiro's are better, sometimes the 455 wifi glitches out and directs you to the wrong page!

It was probably working for some months and I didn't notice.

I'm surprised SWR haven't put out a press release promoting this improvement Surely they want to promote the nice things they are doing for passengers.

I notice the service is provises by Hotspot.de and she. You click through you get a pagw in German. They offer Spanish and French versions but not English ones.

This morning my O2 reception was better than the 455 a d that's saying something. I didn't however need to log in today.

Why did they bother installing wifi with the anticipation of the trains getting replaced next year, although the new trains will likely be late whats the point? Did they have to? I'm not complaint by any means, strange there isn't any advertising about it whatsoever though from what I've seen.

Photographed 159003 + 009 today and contrary to the above, 159009 appears to have a much lighter SWR livery than its cousin. Which one was done first and which is the current version please?

It's hard to say really, as most of the 159s have slightly different variations. However, the ones that have 'no stripes' are the more recent version.

159009 was the more recently done, in August and 159003 was done in January.

PTSO or platform depending on the weather

Thank you. Although I despise the new livery, I feel 159003 looks the better of the two...

And a shame SWT used to keep their trains nice and clean, standards have plummeted somewhat ...
