Update. They didn't even look at my bag. Breezed right past them at the gate. Only issue I did have was that I forgot to take my belt off which set the scanners off...

they might have a riot on their hands.

Why? If you agree to the T&C's of Ryanair when you buy your ticket, and then turn up at the gate with a bag that is bigger than what you have agreed to in those T&C's, then it's YOUR fault, not the Airlines. Some people's sense of entitlement is mind boggling! Follow the T&C's and there is no problem. People who want to argue the toss should be made to stand in front of one of the planes engines when they are spooled up. (Ideal for dealing with rioters)!

What's the view like from your high horse?

Leave the capitalisation of random words to the Daily Mail.

You're new here, clearly, and the point is about the change of policy on payment for bags which were previously free to a fee structure which now makes Wizz look generous.

If you're going to come here and defend Ryanair I think you will get short shrift.

Attack the post, NOT the poster. (First rule of forum posting). I won't bother with the rest (being a seasoned FR traveller).

My advice to a mate who is currently in Vilnius who had a soft bag larger than the size limit was not to fill it so it was rammed full. Since him and his girlfriend are currently in Vilnius without any extra charge I can only presume my advice worked.

I'm flying from Berlin Schoenefeld on Sunday - is it any better than Tegel for facilities after security, specifically for food? Tegel just had a bar selling a few sandwiches - is there anywhere post-security for getting hot food in Schoenefeld?

Tegal depends a lot between terminals: the original terminal has security per-gate, and unsurprisingly each gate has little in the way of anything.

Schönefeld I think has multiple discrete bits too, but likewise doesn't have a huge amount either from memory: there's a (overpriced) sandwich place, Burger King, and an Irish Pub (which I believe does some food, though I've never tried?). I have a vague memory of there being one or two more places, but there's certainly not much.

Figured this would be the best place to ask this, given it's aviation-related (plus I don't think it really warrants it's own thread).

Have been trawling through British Airways pics from the 80s & 90s of the Landor livery and it got me thinking: what was the last aircraft in service with BA still wearing that livery and when did it (a get repainted or B) retire? I know a few 747-200s managed to last into the early 2000s still wearing it, but not much else. May seem like a silly question, but am curious as to what the answer will be nonetheless. :)

If Schoenefeld is better than Tegel then I am glad I have never used Tegel. Schoenberg is horribly overcrowded airside. Only place I have been with worse overcrowding is Split (Which would be a nice airport with more space). Schoenefeld was horrible.

Tegel wasn't overcrowded, just under-equipped.

Ever been through Lisbon Terminal 2? That was the worst ever in my experience.

Agreed. One of the worst airports I've ever used in Europe (Funchal is another). Would rather take the train to Berlin than use SXF again (airport code for Berlin Schoenefeld for those not aware)

Budget airline easyJet has axed its flights between Aberdeen and London Gatwick.

It will withdraw from the route on February 8, it was confirmed today.

A spokesman for the Luton-based airline said: “After reviewing the route, easyJet can confirm that it will cease operating flights between Aberdeen and London Gatwick from February 8 2019 due to a reduction in demand.

“We concentrate our efforts on maintaining and developing routes which prove most popular with passengers.

“EasyJet will continue to operate flights from Aberdeen to London Luton.”

This news has not gone down well in Aberdeen.

Re-starting on 09th Feb 2018 is Gatwick to Düsseldorf. The route will operate twice daily Monday - Friday, with I believe a lower frequency at weekends.

Flight departs Gatwick 06.30am, arriving 09.00am, and 18.00pm, arriving 20.25pm

Return flights from Düsseldorf depart 09.35am, arriving 10.10am, and 21.05pm, arriving 21.35pm

Cheers

Ben

I've not had the 'pleasure' of using this airport I must admit.

Another one that springs to mind is Lisbon (using the 'shack' that Easyjet flights depart from). It's horrible, absolutely horrible. There was hardly any seating, and people with young children/infants we sat on the floor in corridors as nowhere else to go.

Sounds like the Bordeaux Billi then. Departures queue well out the door, 3 bag drop desks open for about 6 flights in an hour or so, security overwhelmed, no seating until airside, and then only a small cafe and about 50 seats, and 1000 people wanting to use them. All in a warehouse with half a dozen windows the size of dinner plates. I thought I was unlucky, but it has happened every time I’ve been there.

Yeah, Lisbon's a lot like that. When the gate was announced, nobody showed up at passport control for about half an hour, and beyond there was what seemed to be a converted car park with nowhere to sit. Lovely.

Also sounds like Bremen too when I flew with Ryanair to Edinburgh a few years ago - that by the way was the last time I would ever fly with Ryanair due to the awful experiences I had with them which is a pity as my first flight with them a few years even earlier from Stansted to Almeria was really good.

You’ve done the right thing. I boycotted them twice before, and twice have gone back. After last year though, it’s three strikes and they’re out for ever.

I only flew with them as it was a direct flight to Edinburgh and meant I didn't have to fly into London from Berlin and then fly up to Edinburgh plus it meant I got to sample my first ever ICE train to Hamburg!

Well I'm now at the point that if Ryanair are the only airline flying to somewhere I need to go, I will go with another airline to somewhere less convenient and complete the journey over land. Indeed that is why I ended up in Bordeaux with a 3 hour drive rather than Carcassonne and 30 minutes.

I am no fan of them but this rather seems like biting your nose off to spite your face.

In any case, in my experience Wizzair are far, far worse.

Well, yes. But they are awful: the worst travel experience (from booking to trip completion)by any mode, any company, by a long way. Repeatedly.

There are plenty of people on here who will do anything to avoid voyagers, or pacers, or Thameslink; this is just my version!

Well I beg to differ.

I've had several journeys from Stansted to Luxembourg on Ryanair and have only paid about £30 to £40 each way including a front row seat and priority boarding with the two bags.

Most of the flights have been on time barring one outward journey that was delayed by about 40 minutes.

The only major problem I have had with Ryanair was a six hour delay from Wroclaw to Liverpool. Fortunately Wroclaw airport was really nice, had brilliant wi fi, cheap beer and a good smoking area. I didn't even bother going after compensation.

Would be interesting to know what anyone else’s opinion is on Funchal airport?
Flown from their a few times and although check in can be a bit chaotic, I thought departures was fantastic - especially being able to sit with a Starbucks on the balcony!

You wally !!! - just think how many cheap tabs you threw away there by not bagging your 250 smackers.

Could have funded a gratis re-run

You're not wrong - the verdict from this weekend is that Tegel is a clear winner - as @gsnedders says there's not much airside at Schoenefeld either, and at least Tegel isn't such a tip. A particular highlight was the queue for passport checks by necessity blocking the corridor. Brandenburg is desperately needed.

I ended up eating at BK, and I enjoyed the sign asking for no non-BK food to be eaten there so that their customers could have a seat, despite the fact that there were no seats and we were eating standing up at a tall table.

Does anyone have any experiences of flying with Alitalia? Are they preferable to Ryanair? Is it wise to book with them as they are struggling financially?

I've flown with them, but as that was back on 7th September 2002, from Fiumicino to New York on Boeing 767 I-DEIL ( at 8h32 in the air, my longest flight to date... ) I doubt that anything I could say would be relevant to what you need to know, I'm afraid...
