Warren Street Victoria line

Does anyone know what the little boxes are at the north end of the northbound platform are for, they are above the information board. They look like they can light up.

Where about are you referring to? Do you have a photograph? I went to Warren Street today and couldn’t see anything that matched the description you provided. There is also no information board toward the headwall; the dot matrix departure board being in the middle-ish of the platform, unless you are referring to the whiteboard provided for Train Operators?

Mojo I did say north end of platform but I should have been more clear yes the drivers information board by the barrier. I don't have a photo but will see if someone I know has one. There was 6 little boxes sort of that's my best description.

I couldn’t see anything above the information board, but I did see something adjacent to it. These are enamel signs and they don’t light up. Station staff will insert a key into the casing and pull it down, they can then remove and rotate the white squares (you can see the back of them), they display things like the S board (to indicate one member of platform staff is present) or the T with a cross through it to indicate that the tunnel telephone apparatus and associated equipment is out of action.

Mojo, Thanks but I have looked at some other stations on the Victoria line and could not find any others, now I have another question those signs you mentioned were these originally on the headwall as from what I have read that would have been the position.

No, they would normally be located to be visible from the side windows of trains on all platforms where they are positioned.

Some stations might have older arrangements whereby the signs are spread about in different locations for example individual signs on the headwall or under the Opo monitors.

They are more commonly located on the grey fences that make up the platform end barriers, but run parallel with the track rather than at right angles.

Attached is the photo of the signs at Victoria Victoria line Northbound showing the ‘S’ on display.

Thanks for that do you know how long they have been in that postion? I looked in the yellow perils and they showed the headwall arrangement. Yes that photo is the same as the one I saw at Warren Street.

They are to tell the driver how many platform staff on duty (S1,S2) if radio (R) or tunnel telephone wires (T) are working etc. Usually they'd be behind the grey barrier out of obvious public view, or on the headwall itself. In my experience most station staff never bothered to update them regularly and most drivers ignored them.

It's really for a inter-train game of scrabble isn't it? Each driver has the dwell time to make a word. In this case S and three blanks...
