One in Yorkshire/Lancashire. I'd love to cover how to approach misinformed/unaware staff I.e. staff refusing to get you onward transport, staff not knowing about split ticketing rights, staff questioning rousteing etc. - in terms of beyond quoting the NRCoT

We have another advanced one in London coming up, we have 1 place available. We are also looking at other areas too, please do continue to reply below if you are interested and state where you are based and what sort of workshop you want to attend (and optionally what topics you'd like to cover).
Please let me know the date(s)!

Long time reader but new poster. I would be interested in an introductory workshop. In particular I would like to understand the Routeing Guide in more detail! I live near Cambridge and can get to London easily.

I'd be interested in attending an introductory workshop too as I had to cancel before. Anywhere near to London or Southampton.

I'm looking for an Advanced fares worked in the North West. Liverpool, Preston, Wigan or Chester would be perfect.

Good topics to cover, would be very helpful to learn these beyond the NRCoT and how to deal with staff on such issues.

I am certainly interested in a fares workshop. My preferred location would be Edinburgh (or anywhere in the Central Belt) but I'm pretty mobile and as long as I'm free on the day I can probably get down as far as York or Preston.

Who is on the Sheffield Doodle as "Kevin T", "Rich B" and "Neil G"?

I cannot find these usernames.

Is the Sheffield date set by now?
If the Northern strike is off, I can add a few dates on the Doodle.

Hi! I would like to attend a workshop on the 26th in London, if possible. I am a regular train traveller and know the basics of split ticketing, but I would like to improve my knowledge.

Would be interested to know what exactly is covered at each one? So, what the difference is between a standard and advanced? Thanks.

Is the doodle to cover all the above?
There are two Doodles:
I've created a couple of Doodles to determine dates for more Fares Workshops. Please add your username to whichever of these is of interest, and if you can include a rough location in brackets, that would be very useful to help us work out the best places to hold the next ones at.
I would be interested in the Leominster/Hereford one. Only standard though, advanced would be beyond me!
That'll be an advanced workshop.
Would be interested to know what exactly is covered at each one?
At a standard workshop people are welcome to choose from whichever topics they like and we go through the basics of those topics.

The assumption is that people are not already familiar with the subject matter.

For example there have been workshops where attendees were particularly keen to cover excess fares, so we did that in detail from scratch. However at many of the workshops excess fares have been barely mentioned as that area wasn't requested.

Everyone is welcome to add items to the agenda of topics.

I've known some members attend several standard workshops and we have tried to make them as different as possible but the reality is some areas may be covered twice where this occurs, but even then we try to use different examples e.g. if the same person attends two workshops and we cover the routeing guide, we'll aim to look up different routes. We try to make the examples relevant for attendees.

If there is a lot of demand for a workshop, I'll give priority to people who have not yet attended one, but there is no limit to how many you can attend.
So, what the difference is between a standard and advanced? Thanks.
The assumption at an advanced workshop is that we won't cover things from scratch and build upon the basics and we cover topics in more detail. They may be less structured.

However there is no requirement to attend a standard one before an advanced one.

A slightly belated thank you for the Harrow fares workshop last weekend. @yorkie @Starmill @causton patiently took me through the routing guide, always with an interesting example to hand. I've floundered around in the past and to be guided from first principles - well, I should have done it years ago..

If you are interested in joining us for any of these free, informal events please add your username to any of the Doodles below:

  • Fares workshop: https://doodle.com/poll/exqsb54nese5gnfh
  • Advanced fares workshop: https://doodle.com/poll/bh84ycu8r962tx9c (aimed at anyone who has already attended a fares workshop or who is already familiar with concepts such as the Routeing Guide)
  • Fares data workshop: To follow (reply below if this would be of interest; aimed at people who want to look at the electronic data. We can help you get the data into a SQL database)
After your username, please include your approximate location in brackets, so that we can get a good idea of where to hold these events. Thanks :)

Sorry it's been difficult to match up dates and locations.

We are holding a fares workshop on 14th August in Northwest London, however this is now full.

This will be closely followed by a fares workshop on 23 August in Oxford, if there is sufficient demand.

If anyone is interested in a fares data workshop (either if you have already attended one and wish to attend another, or if you have knowledge of SQL databases), do let us know.

Here are the Doodles:
Fares workshop https://doodle.com/poll/exqsb54nese5gnfh
Advanced fares workshop https://doodle.com/poll/bh84ycu8r962tx9c

Don't forget to add your forum username (someone has added themselves as "James" but the forum member of that username is no longer active)
