I was talking about going up to RAF Marham to see the Tornado for it's family & friends do so I could see it for the last time but not sure when that will be can anyone give me a rough date please.

This discussion allows to talk about aviation in general, RAF or not if anyone is keen on Supermarine Spitfire's or Avro Lancaster's that's fine as of the 100th anniversary of the forming of the RAF.

Bye to the Tornados, but I miss the Jaguars.

They where Hellfire, last time I saw a Jag was at Newark Air Museum, it was a T.2 XX829.
Jaguars were a regular sight flying out of Lossiemouth when I was a kid. Together with Buccaneers, Hunters, Shackletons and Sea Kings, there was certainly a lot more variety in the skies. Nimrods from nearby Kinloss completed the picture.

I'm not sure where the ones I used to see as a kid came from. The nearest station to me was Cosford, not sure if that was an active base in the 90/00s.

Whereas now my locals are Lakenheath, Mildenhall and Marham. So mostly all I see these days are F15s.

Yes, it would have been, plus the occasional fly-in from something destined for preservation.

My abiding memories of Tornados is them flying around the Northumberland coast whenever I was on holiday down there. They had the noise to match the looks! One particular event I clearly remember entails two of them swooping around the beach near Beadnell (a mile or so south of Seahouses) on a clear day, one of 'em flying directly over my head. The only aircraft I've encountered (or machine in general!) that was louder was Vulcan XH558 at the 2014 Scottish Airshow.

I guess they were practising low level bombing as the sand would be like in the middle east and dog fighting techniques. And yes they are Very Very loud.

Indeed, just sheer noise. Typhoons are awesome aircraft, that's undeniable. But the attention the Tornado commands and their commanding presence (much like the F-14 Tomcat in fact) has them just ahead of the Typhoons in my book. Will be a shame when they finally retire.

Years ago when my dad was in the RAF, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight landed at his station (RAF Coltishall) and I was allowed to climb inside and explore the Lancaster bomber (it was great for a 6 year old !).

Unfortunately that's not long away, end of March.

I watched the Tornado photo shoot on YouTube. I think the Tornado painted in the GR.1 camouflage looks really good.
