[Video shows Flying Scotsman passing through a station, as the steam clears multiple enthusiasts are shown off the end of the platform ramp in the cess and one almost on the sleeper ends of the opposite line]

Look at the end of the platform ramp around 14 seconds in.

They should take the thing off the mainline until men over 40 learn to control themselves

Idiots will ruin things for all of us. On the Mazey Day Cornishman railtour in June, a steward told me that because of one particular group of idiots who were hanging out the windows up to their waists (!) on a previous tour, and it had been filmed, the company had been fined and threatened with being closed down because of this dangerous behaviour. Good grief. Behave yourselves, people!

I’d be more worried about the flames apparently shooting out. We’ve only had a couple of empty Pendolinos in the middle of the night. Don’t melt the wires yet!

These people will get puffer buffer tours stopped. You will only have your fellow steam buffs to blame.

If you see this kind of behaviour and don't challenge it you are complicit with it.

They're just unbelievable aren't they! Plenty of muppets to be seen on the platform too wrongside of the yellow line, at least one in particular about 1 metre from the platform edge with his back to the traffic, of course getting that awesome shot is far more important

Hopefully but not clear
There was something similar captured on the Dawlish Webcam when Tangmere (I think) passed a couple of years back - leading to lots of debate, but it turned out to be nothing of importance I believe.

People (the window hangers) who behave like this obviously reckon they know so much about railways...but not that if their behaviour leads to an injury or fatality, then some person/organisation will be accountable for it.

Stupid, pointless behaviour to be stamped out.

Unfortunately it will take someone being killed before being stopped.
It’s not just the old that get all misty eyed about steam, all ages do it. You only have to be somewhere like Doncaster or York on a Saturday when there’s a steam special running to see people balancing on the edge of the platform as if they’re on a tightrope. That goes for the people on the tours too. I remember back in May 2016 when Flying Scotsman pulled in at York. We were forbidden to pass a certain point on the platform by the BT police yet as soon as the tour percipients arrived off the train of all ages they were allowed to the far end of the platform and snap away at will all in front of the same BT police.
Grumpy & cantankerous they were too. “Out of my way I’m on the tour you know” they bellowed.
I won’t put on here what was said back to him as he waltzed about in his tweed jacket like he owned the platform.

One chap is wrong side of the yellow line, back to traffic, whilst carrying a child in one arm so he can film with the other!

Sooner they stop these railtours the better, it's a working railway not an enthusiasts playground.

They pay their way just like any other train, and usually bring in a considerable amount of goodwill to the railways.

Idiotic behaviour. Is Horwich Parkway staffed? I tend to find it's often people on the platform and not actual passengers on the railtour that cause the problems.

The railway is not a playground and the consequences of playing around with trains are far too gruesome to even describe on a public forum. I think if I was a CSO, I'd grow very tired with the amount of people (not just traintrainspotters) who think nothing of crossing the yellow line.

Pre 80's cant recall this problem, we traveled far and wide with drop lights but took our own safety seriously and didnt put the responsibility on others. We spent many hours on platform ends and again without problem didnt put responsibility on other's. If individuals are stupid enough to put their safety at risk why should others be held responsible? Time to get away from the Nanny state and ambulance chasers and take responsibilities for our own actions

The "good old days" are long gone. I cant be bothered arguing about the nanny state rubbish but I suggest you look at what has actually happened rather than your own prejudice. Legislation wise you are miles off.

This kind of behaviour will get your puffer tours stopped. Soon. You will only have yourselves to blame if you don't challenge this behaviour

Are you sure they pay thier way? Do they pay the extra policing costs associated with sorting out bad behaviour or the costs to the tocs ot trains having to run at caution because of reports of people on the line?

And when one falls over (which they do) don't those running the railtour have protection by way of a compensation limit they have to pay? Which results in them costing far more than they generate.

Nothing to do with good old days. Just time people took responsibility for their own behavoir , or is there a reason why today people blame other's and cant take responsibility?

I suggest you do some research about access to justice. The rights people enjoy have not changed ( despite what your favoured newspaper tells you). The ability for normal people to enforce them has.

I am sick of discussing this issue with "informed" commenters here so will not comment further.

Glad to here, if i stick my head out an open window and get hit by something is it me or another to blame? reminds me of the the insurance claim, " Lamp Post jumped out in front of me".
Time to take responsibilty fro our action and stop blaming others.

I'm not sure where in this thread others are being blamed?

Sadly it's a common theme nowadays that people simply don't understand that the railway is a live workplace and not some preserved line where trains run at 20mph if that.

As to the idiots trespassing, a few convictions might go a long way to addressing the issue either that or a general ban on Kettles on the National Network.

The rules are just the same as for other TOCs and FOCs. If the bad behaviour is directly related to their train they get the delay, if they don't....

As 403 posted, there needs to be some publicised prosecutions. Banning steam would be very petty as there's also been issues with diesel charters, but often they use traction still in use on 'regular services' anyway. One notable incident that prompted serious talk of banning 40s was 10 years ago where enthusiasts on a tour were initially blamed for an incident where a window was smashed, but was actually caused by air pressure due to a 91 passing at line speed in a tunnel, slamming a droplight shut.

Goodness me. This is one of the most preposterous posts I have read on this board. It shows your understanding of these issues is pretty poor..
