Wincham Park were both Witton Albion & Northwich Victoria play, is miles from Northwich Town Centre, & no regular bus service goes there or within walking distance either.

It's about half an hour's walk from Blackburn Station to Ewood Park.
Mill Hill is only 20 mins away, but pretty infrequently served.
Given Blackburn-Bolton line runs feet away from the ground and the area is a traffic nightmare on matchdays, I've always wondered if there was a case for a halt station at Ewood.

Given Northern's persistent inability to run trains on a Saturday, anywhere wholly dependent on that TOC is effectively a long way from the rail network on the average matchday.

Thanks for the update, didn't realise it was being delayed due to the electrification. And for the bus lane, can we get one going away from the stadium too? Can't wait to get out quick enough these days!
Haha I know, I do first aid duty with St John's Ambulance at some Royals matches and it takes me quite a long time on my pushbike to get there because of the traffic but still faster than the cars stuck in a jam when I'm whizzing past on the Kennet and Avon cycle route. As for the express bus lane, it's called the South Reading MRT and Phase 1 and 2 has been built but we're still waiting for the rest to be built. Here's a map of Phase 1 and 2 : http://www.reading.gov.uk/media/239..._Reading_MRT_Phases_1___2_-_Location_Plan.pdf and here's a link to the news that funding has been approved for the future phases of the MRT : https://tvproperty.co.uk/news/new-phases-of-south-reading-mrt-approved. Oh, and this is where I found out about the delays : https://www.getreading.co.uk/news/reading-berkshire-news/network-rail-attempt-green-park-12658687.

A friend tells me that Gainsborough Trinity is a nightmare to get to. He went to a game there on Saturday (his team Nantwich were away). Gainsborough Central station is a 12 minute walk from the ground but there is a very limited service meaning he had to get a train to Gainsborough Lea Road from where it's a 30 minute walk to the football ground.

Southport FC on Haig Avenue is a good 30 minute walk from Southport railway station. You could get a bus from the centre of Southport along Scarisbrick Road North but it's more hassle than it's worth.

You could also get a train one stop from Southport to Meols Cop from where it's a 15 minute walk to the ground, but again, it's more hassle than it's worth. In fact, you can't even do that on a Saturday at the moment with Northern on strike!

Coventry, given that the Arena is closed before and after matches.

No it isn't!!

Only occurred for the first few months after opening in Jan 2016. It cost LM to shut the station for an hour, staff costs etc, and didn't help with crowds getting impatient waiting. They also employed a bloke to turn up before each matchday to check the locks on the gates worked!

The security staff contracted stopped too. You then had a situation where you had to slow down to almost a crawl as you went through as the platform was full. Only takes one p****d up fan to lean against the train as it crawls through and you've a potential PTI incident on your hands.

It's much safer to stop and try and cram as many on the double set, than skip the stop and risk someone falling between the gap.

Chester's ground is only about half a mile from Sealand Road Park & Ride but the question is - are you allowed to buy tickets to make return journeys in the "wrong" direction? I'm not convinced that you can as tickets only seem to be from machines in the car parks. But the 10 & 10A buses also stop nearby.

No regular buses stop on Haig Avenue at the moment, but it's a short walk from 44/300/375/385.

Surprised no one has mentioned Cheltenham Town's Whaddan Road, took me about 40/45 minutes to walk, what a hike.

Guernsey FC for the win!

Their ground is on the island but they play in the Bostik League against the likes of Hastings Utd, Whitstable Town and Greenwich Borough.

Morecambe to the Globe Arena isn't pleasant, at 1.5 miles with a poor bus service. You're best off trying to get there early by taking the bus from Lancaster in my experience.

It's a myth that Selhurst Park is remarkably close to any station. Norwood Junction is closest, Selhurst second and Thornton Heath first. It's do-able from Norwood Junction in 10 minutes, Selhurst at a push too, Thornton Heath no realistic chance. I think it probably crops up as an example mainly because it's a rare example of a stadium genuinely served by three stations roughly equidistant from it.

I think the myth is that it’s nowhere near any station. Although that’s compared to other London grounds that benefit from nearby tube stations, and that you need to take slow stopping services all the way out to zone 4 to get there, which isn’t true either (LBG-NWD fasts).

I’m a Palace fan, and can confirm you can walk to Selhurst Park in 10 minutes from Norwood Jct and Selhurst. That’s to the closest corner of the ground in both cases. If you have tickets for anything other than the Holmesdale Stand or the Holmesdale end of the Arthur (walking from NWD) you’ll be walking another 5-10 minutes.

Preston and Deepdale are somewhat detached!

Just over 2 miles. Barely registers for the purpose of this thread!

it is a right PITA from the station. You need the 10a from the town. I got a cab.

Bristol City is a 45 minute slog from Temple Meads if there are no convenient trains stopping at Parson Street - which there aren't if the game has been selected for TV coverage with a 5:30pm kick-off.

Tameside is not a good area:

Hyde United: at least twenty minutes walk from either Hyde Central or Godley.

Stalybridge Celtic: twenty minutes walk up a steep hill.

Ashton United play at Hurst: a good twenty minutes walk.

Curzon Ashton or Droylesden: massive walk from Ashton or Fairfield stations, but super if you count the Metrolink.

Edit: just remembered Mossley: twenty minutes up a big hill if TPE can be bothered to stop.

Newton for Hyde is also near to Hyde United's ground, but at least 15-20 minutes walk. From Hyde Central or Godley, consider the 201 bus and alight at the old Bankfield stop. Then walk up Villiers Street which should take you to the main entrance. Or, on foot, you could break your journey at The Sportsman and imbibe a few pints of Rossendale Brewery's finest ales. Then continue to the ground via Lumn Road until you see a path along a churchyard on your left. This is known as Tinker's Passage. Only one downside is the amount of canine turds on this path (use the torch on your phone for night matches when taking this route).

For Stalybridge Celtic, the 236, 237, and 387 buses from Stalybridge railway station will make light work of the climb up Mottram Road. With Ashton United, you need the 38, 39, 231, 331 and 333 buses from Ashton bus station. The Tameside Stadium (Curzon Ashton's humble abode) is better by tram from Ashton West, but you still need to walk along Richmond Street and there's a fair walk to the ground from Richmond Park's entrance. With Droylsden, the tram again, but you could walk from Fairfield station to the Trough (Manchester Road end, not Audenshaw Road) via Clarendon Road and Manor Road then get a 217 bus to the town centre.

As for Mossley AFC, I recommend the 350 bus from Ashton-under-Lyne or Bottom Mossley. If in the unlikely event that the TPE stops at Mossley (without pulling the communication cord), the 343 and 353 services offer another way of climbing up Stamford Road towards Top Mossley.

Whilst not the longest, but a contender for the worst walk would be Inverness. Through an industrial estate negotiating 2 roundabouts and when it's windy it's severe as it is very open and to be welcomed by gales coming off the Moray Firth on the site of an old dump! <D

I visited Inverness Caley Thistle in October (midweek match) - thankfully they offer a return bus service from the bus station!

Reading's is built on the side of an old dump but isn't exactly windy the tiny Foundry Brook being the nearest river. The A33 causes more turbulence! That's why walking there is so crap!

Have fun hiking from Yeovil Pen Mill station to Huish Park - that took me about 45 minutes I think.

And Torquay's ground is quite away uphill from the town. If you walk from Torre it's a little less steep.

Uphill?! Torquay is on top of a mountain if you walk up from the seafront on a warm day!
Forest Green is similar....pleasant stroll from Stroud to the bottom of the hill and then......
