Don’t think the 385s have been to any destination served from Glasgow Central other than Gourock and Wemyss Bay for their initial testing and more recently driver training. If they are to be introduced to Glasgow southside services over the course of this timetable then I suspect they will start to appear on any routes relevant to their future soon.

Not that I want to drag this topic further away from 314s, but in the last few weeks, I noticed that the platform Polloksheilds East has been resurfaced at the "old" platform area, located behind the stairs and ticket office, which was at the very least unused, if not outright out of bounds. I wonder if this is a small hedge for 6x23m trains in the future, once these 314s have gone. There isn't a huge amount of extra platform there, so maybe I am reading too much into things, but it caught my eye.

IIRC this was taken out of use when there was a SPAD leading to a collision between a 303 and 101 at the junction, the signal and platform being moved back from the junction as a consequence, so I'm not sure if it would be for safety reasons.

There is a plan for 6 car class 385s on peak time Cathcart Circle services when they're introduced. Certain Cathcart Circle stations with differential stopping boards for the 23m car trains now have six car boards at the ends of the platforms. They're also on the Newton line as well. As you'll be aware 6 x 23m cars are not possible on the Neilston line without some form of track remodelling at Neilston station, so unless a crossover is inserted in advance of the station then we'll still see 320s and 318s on the route for the foreseeable future.

Currently 3x4 car 380 unit diagrams covering the Neilston line which have to be switched to other services during evening peak so that six car 314s can run to still provide full capacity. The 380s are being used to alleviate overcrowding on certain existing 3 car peak services and on off peak services on the route. That's why Neilston got them before Inverclyde. Whether this is a temporary measure or if they'll continue after the 385 introduction is unclear.

Have to say that the withdrawal of 314s on the southside electrics is becoming fairly noticeable. Was on two Newton services today that would normally have been carried out by 314s but are now covered by a 318 and 380.

According to the scot-rail 314 diagrams page, 206 & 210 have been withdrawn too. Definitely approaching endangered species status fairly soon. I was sad enough to photograph them all -minus 212- in their cubic splendour. And whoosh, another 380 goes past on a Neilston run

It was 314216, I also saw it heading into Central around 15.20 this afternoon.

Yeah , i was on Pendo around 1240 when i seen it . End is nigh for them . 380s are a step up in comfort for Neilston passsengers and the units get to a higher speed than Newton or Ciircle lines.

I was in Glasgow Central a few times yesterday and the only 314's that I saw were on Paisley Canal services. I had a trip to Mount Florida (a visit to the Clockwork Beer Co pub to sample some of their beers :D) and I had 380101 there and 318263 back to Central.

In case anyone is interested, last runs were:
314206 1G46 13:24 Gourock to Glasgow Central 23/11/18
314210 2D68 23:05 Paisley Canal to Glasgow Central 11/12/18

I went on the Glasgow Central tour some time back and the guide mentioned that they hoped to include one of the disused low level platforms and some rolling stock in the future. It occurs to me that it may be appropriate to use a 314 (or part of one) next to the line for which they were built.

A 7 car 385 was sent to Corkrhill yesterday. Which would tend to suggest that staff training will be starting shortly.
If thec385s are to be used on Cathcart circles and platforms are not long enough, they do have SDO which can be used.

Woukd however think it would be a waste to use them there.

I remember being on the tour and he mentioned that too - great tour by the way - ...I suppose it would be poignant given they were used in the re-opening of the Argyle Line...hopefully one will be preserved. PS Getting on a busy 314 with a bike was a nightmare!

The platforms are definitely long enough. Although I'd thought that 385s did not have SDO.

Have also noticed slightly fewer 314s recently. The Sat daytime GLC/NTN via QPK is usually a 314 but was a 320 at the weekend. The 1751 Cathcart Circle was a 314 up until very recently but seems to be a 318/320 much more often now.

If one of these was the 1731 Central to Newton then that's a booked 380 using one of the sets off the daytime Neilston diagrams.

It was the 1731. I believe the 1645 Central to Newton service is also part of a 380 diagram.

314s I spotted in service today were 202, 203 and 205.

Yep - been a 4-car 380 each time I've caught it since the timetable change.

Can't remember for sure, but I think the 07:15 off Newton might be a 380 now too. Was always a 314 before the timetable change.

It’s scary how unequiped Scotland is at coping with the increase in population. It’s almost as though we’re stuck in the past with platforms and railway stations only able to cope with standard size trains. The 380s have been here since 2009/2010 but yet most stations along their lines can’t cope with 7 car trains. Bad

They definitely have SDO, its in use on 6 car 385 formations on the North Berwick Line as bar the two termini only Wallyford has a long enough platform for them.

Ah. Well I've learned something new! We'll see if it is used on the Cathcart Circle then although my impression was that the platforms would be just long enough. Not sure how practical SDO would be anyway on that route as the stations are about a minute apart.

Re: JumpinTrainz post above: You're absolutely correct. Either through the ability to take longer trains or operate more frequent services, our infrastructure really should be far better than it is. I saw someone the other day on twitter point out that we close our infrastructure down or neglect it. Then reopen/develop it to half the level it once was and call it progress!

On the 2035 to Neilston, courtesy of 203. It was a 320 last night. Spotted 214 & 216 awaiting departures on the Inner Circle and Canal respectively

The 314s are starting to get a bit like the pacers now, outdated rolling stock in service moths after they were supposed to be withdrawn due to replacement rolling stock taking literally years to enter service.

It'll automatically lock out the relevant amount of rear coaches at short platforms just like the 380 does with the Automatic Selective Door Opening (ASDO). Drivers only have to use manual SDO if they are calling at platforms out of course or making additional stops.

If Glasgow decides to bring back trams, the Cathcart, Newton, and Neilston lines could be converted as part of a second phase after building a Glasgow Queen Street - Central - Broomielaw - Clyde Arc Bridge - Pacific Quay - Govan Cross - New Southern General Hospital - Braehead Centre - Renfrew Cross - Glasgow International Airport - Abbotsinch - Paisley Gilmour Street - Paisley Cross line. Being as the stations along the Cathcart, Newton, and Neilston lines are close together, this would be suitable for converting to trams.

All it requires for Glasgow and SPT to bring back trams is to get the people in who planned, designed, and constructed the Manchester Metrolink, as they are the experts and would make sure it is done properly at the first time of asking.

Off topic completely but how I wish they had a designated railway station or subway station at the QEUH. How much time and effort could be saved travelling from the east end every morning!
