On the naughty step again.
There is an awful lot of myth and rumour building up around these sets!

There is no need to isolate anything for 100mph running. Notch 5 is not being isolated. To do so would be rather daft: imagine the scenario of a failed power car - notch 5 isolated on the remaining good one would severely hamper performance and drivers are not permitted to poke around in the control cubicle reinstating notches.

In short, the only change to the power cars is to add the traction/brake interlock to prevent the set being moved with the sliding doors open. Everything else, such as motor gearing, control system, power rating etc etc is totally unchanged.
".........traction/brake interlock to prevent..."
Do I interpret this correctly as that if a coach door is open the driver cannot release the brakes or apply power?

It was delivered in various parts. Some of GW02 is being used for training staff at St Philips Marsh. I wouldn't expect it out for a while yet.

Something wrong if you get 5,000hp on an HST.....
I did travel on a hybrid Class 91 -8 Mk 3's with an active Class 43 HST DVT, 6300 rail horsepower from the 91, plus 1770 rail horsepower from the Class 43 DVT - a true 8000 rail hp in total!! Stunning performance at the time!!!

Also is there a target date for their introduction from Cardiff and Bristol? Are we looking at 2020 before we see them in regular service?

Have you got a date for when you did that?
I had 43013 (but not sure if it was active) with 91005 on 02.07.1989. Of course it is now in the NMT.

Sorry, i didn't record the data or train. I made the journey especially after reading in the magazines that the surrogate DVT was being used to provide power after they experienced traction motor issues on there DVT's as they were originally being hauled and propelled without providing traction power. Was there also an issue that the Paxman engines idling for long periods were causing a sort buildup and possible fires in the exhausts - i also recall.
On the day - i did that very naughty thing of dropping the door side window to ensure i could hear the Valenta engine being used in anger.
The acceleration was so apparent that i remember a fellow passenger saying it was the most exciting train ride he had ever had.
It would be amazing if they could pair these again for one final hurrah to mark the end of HST and 91 trains on the ECML!!

Won't happen, as all the TDM kit was removed from the power cars when they were re-wired back to the standard wiring schematic for the NMT and Grand Central.

It now seems that GWR are planning to operate some classic 2+4 sets until enough refurbished ones enter service just like what ScotRail are doing at the moment.

I suppose it's as good a use as any of the 25 or so surplus power cars GWR have on lease currently.

Does anyone know the planned frequency that these will eventually run between Cardiff & Bristol?

According to a post on WNXX it sounds like GW03 is near enough to getting the green light to being released from Wabtec.

I though GWR were meant to be back of the queue for HST refurbs, yet they will soon have more sets than ScotRail and XC put together.
