1. Cheadle (LNW) station closed 1917 - although line still open. Higher Poynton (closed 1970) if to be a closed line as well. Cheadle Hulme (M & B first station closed 1845 - station house still extant) deserves a mention as well.

2. Wilmslow.

3. Heywood (ELR).

What is the problem of that ha?
Indeed.
I may have posted on this (and it's fairly obvious where I live), but that's my choice, and I'm willing to take the risk of a sweating anorak wearing stalker hiding in a bush by the garden gate when I put the bins out later.
I know Anthony, and I know that that's not remotely where he's coming from.
If you don't feel comfortable with it then it's your choice whether to post or not.

I mean i dont see how someone can pinpoint where you live from this unless you are very specific.

If I'd posted the stations closest to my actual home, I'd be fairly easy to track down - it'd be a case of walking into my local pub and asking "do you know...?" But that's one thing you have to get used to when you live in the land of the twitching curtain ;)

Definitely, although...
I know that GusB will be found staggering home from a pub just after a late night lock in, somewhere in the North East of Scotland at around 2 in the morning...

My moniker provides the answer to question 1. The other 2 answers can be deduced once that location is identified.

2. Burnage, on the WCML

3. Probably Bury Bolton Street on the ELR?

From your house what is your nearest:

1.Closed/disused railway station and line
2.Still open station on which line
3.Heritage station on preservation line

1. Closed station on functional railway - Winchburgh, closed in the 1930s, proposals exist to reopen it, which I hope they do. It'll be a stone's throw from my house. Closed station on a closed line - Kirkliston. Don't think any of the station still exists, I'm not exactly sure where it was, although the line itself is now a path from Newbridge to Queensferry.
2. Nearest open station - there's not much to choose from between Linlithgow and Uphall, both on different routes from Edinburgh to Glasgow. I don't ever use Uphall, though.
3. Nearest heritage station: Bo'ness
