I've been looking on the website for London to Inverness tickets during the week before the second May bank holiday and it keeps coming back with no tickets available. Either the website has messed up or the sleeper is rammed full the week before the bank holiday. If the latter, it doesn't look like it is pricing itself out of the market at the moment.

Just checked for the 2nd June, "We could not process your request at this time. Please try again." Oh joy, another dose of flakiness.

Ring them. They are usually very helpful.

Could be engineering work on those nights so they don't know how their services are affected.

There were some brief NRS connectivity problems. It was all fine 20 minutes later. And it all looks fine now. Though it's looking very busy on the Thursday and Friday of the late May bank holiday weekend.

I see on 1S25 to Inverness on the 22nd March it has nearly an hour pathing stop at Huntly, I wonder if the doors will remain locked or will the guard allow folk to alight to get some fresh air.

I'm not sure it was accurate in the first place because I dealt with another 92 failure at Edinburgh before Christmas (can't remember the number..)

That was from a discussion about how the mk5 sleeper carriages could be rescued with the Dellner couplers so I think they were referring to instances where the 92 actually have to be rescued rather failed at a point where it could be swapped over.

Think you’ll mean the incident where two Mk2s frazzled?

92s can be rescued by anything powerful enough to haul the train as they still have their draw hooks, there just won't be ETH available though so the train would be terminated at the next suitable location unless a replacement dellner fitted 92 could be sourced with a reasonable time frame.

What’s the deal with First Class Lounge Access and inclusive breakfast on the new trains?

I’m sure it was discussed once that Caledonian Doubles and Club Rooms would have the current First Class perks - but there’s no mention on the website of lounge access or included breakfast for any of the room types (unless I’ve missed it!)

If I'm right, the Class 92 must be the most powerful UK locomotive - definitely electric locomotive.

If I'm also right, does the London Euston to Aberdeen service, which I prefer to join at Crewe going to Dundee, arrive at Edinburgh around 03:50 and depart at 04:43 as someone said on YouTube? Assuming yes, that must be a nice quiet wait at such a big station - hardly any whistles being blown and no diesel engines running!

Yes thats correct.

Apart from the locos doing the shunting etc.

Oh yes I forgot to mention that . It's like if you're on an EMU or DMU that's waiting to couple or decouple (in this case a locomotive waiting to couple to the carriages), you can feel the train edge forwards or backwards for like 1 second.

Very possibly, but nevertheless they were opened at Huntly when I did the same diverted 1S25 in November. And a nice leg stretch it was.

All a bit confusing..... I see those times you mentioned on the sleeper.scot website but says from Euston. The nres app doesn't allow me to search beyond 14/4 which doesn't help and RTT shows normal weekday timings, is lowalnder close to midnight.

I guess it's another fine example of NR not confirming timetables yet. Annoying since Easter is a very busy time for rail travel.

No reason why it SHOULDN'T start at Euston and reverse at Wembley.

I don't know if it's been done before but I remember having a pair of 67's (16&17) from Carlise to Edinburgh via Dumfries and Shotts, would a pair of 73's be able to cope with a full load 16 or would these days just go up the ECML with a 92

2 x 73s would struggle. I doubt they could haul a load 16.

Weight-wise they’d be able to pull it: 2x 73/9s = 3,200hp and a single 73/9 pulled the equivalent of a Load 14 Polmadie to Edinburgh last year. Wouldn’t be able to provide sufficient ETS though - the output would be no more than a single one as it doesn’t double-up in the same way.

If a diesel diversion was required from Carlisle it’d need to split there I reckon and go forward as 2x Load 8s.

Worth noting that pretty much all Glasgow - EDB routes is now electrified and cleared for 92s, so plenty more options compared to the past to divert with the 92 still attached (eg Carstairs to Edinburgh via Whifflet, Cumbernauld and Falkirk).

I've seen a video of them using a pair of 47's for the sleeper when there's been a diversion, how do they handle ETS there as I'd have thought a single 47 wouldn't be able to meet the ETS requirements given it's a fair bit lower than the electric lococs.

That was with old stock which has a much lower ETH demand than the Mk5s.

Ah, I was assuming the ETS was lower for the older stock but didn't realise it would be that much lower.

1M11 on the 21st April (Easter Sunday). I know it's going into Kings Cross via Edinburgh but is it due to go straight to Edinburgh via Carstairs or will it go via Shotts? (looks to be some buses at Motherwell)
