Hi all,
I applied for trainee driver position in West Midlands (Wolverhampton, Birmingham) some time ago. Went through all stages and unfortunatelly I was dropped after last stage (Managers Interview). I passed all tests at enhanced level and I also passed structured interview at Watford. What would be your advice about next step? I would hate to see all this effort to go to bin, especially that test score is currently at national database.
Thank you for all suggestions.

Who are main players in West Midlands at the moment? West Midlands Trains seems to monopolize area around Birmingham at the moment.

Get feedback from WM, find out where you went wrong, then move forward, keep moving forward and never look back. I failed twice at the DMI stage and I was gutted, third time lucky for me. I found that how2become interview tech books helped me, perhaps consider that. Good luck.

Maybe a FOC? Or you can even apply for West Midlands again? You would only have to do DMI again. Best of luck

I was just wondering about one more thing - they said i have to wait 6 months to re-apply - does it mean I have to wait till they advertise again or can I contact HR department directly? I guess that all scores will be held by them anyway in some dark cupboard anyway :) I know they start training twice year March and September.

Bang those applications in as often as possible, it's a numbers game, you'll succeed.

Get emails to FOCS and TOCS and start emailing them asking if there are any vacancys as you have passed all the tests including mmi.Sometimes they might just need one person last minute as someone has decided to drop out the course before starting.good luck

So if you do not mind me asking....what did you fail on?

I know you are asking ZFE95, but I was a bit baffled about it. I had a feeling, that interview was going in good direction, although I was surprised that I had no chance to say anything about myself (classic tell me about yourself question) or show my knowledge about TOC i was applying to. I contacted HR department and will receive feedback in around 28 working days. Long time, but might be worth waiting to find out where i went wrong. It was a bit similar to MMI really, but I assumed that interviewers will want to know more about me that dry STAR approach I took on my MMI (which i passed). Oh well, we live and learn, I do not plan to give up after one failed DMI :)

I'm in the same boat. Passed all OPC stuff first time last year but failed DMI. Just had interview with Northern today, which I'm not really confident about. So frustrating how something as simple as talking about yourself can be such a stumbling block.

A mix of my interview answers not being relevant to the role, but predominantly not using the STAR method which is essential.

Felt like I kept waffling about things that weren’t necessarily linked to the question nor the job. But the method of your answers is vital IMO.

If you’ve passed all the tests jut apply as and when vancancies come up. If WM said you couldn’t apply for 6months then that would rule them out for those 6months but not other operators.
Chances are you didnt do too bad and were just beaten to the post by someone els, just take whatever advice they give onboard and get ready for the next opportunities that arrise, and with any luck you’ll find yourself within the role before you need to do the tests again.
