because north west will be the main benefit from new class 195s and 331s when they enter service from around mayDo you know why Northern are sending the 158s to Heaton, and then transferring over 142s over to the North West? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to send the 158s to the North West where there is more overcrowding?
From next week they will be used on Carlisle to Newcastle and Morpeth routes only. The reason being is that not all NE crews have been trained up. Hopefully by April all the crews will be trained, so 158s should appear on Durham Coast services.
Does this mean they’ll cease using 142s on Whitby - Hexham services as of next week? The likelihood is that 158s will be used wherever needed in the North East. Priority will be their booked workings but as is the case now where 156s substitute 142s occasionally. I expect this to be the same with 158s. The only reason for the restriction to a certain route from next week. Is that all the crews in the NE haven't signed them yet.
Unless a disaster happens between now and then, it's pretty much certain there'll be 142s in SheffieldMight be in the Sheffield area in two weeks. Any chance of seeing 142s?
Can the class 142 still be found on the Newcastle - Carlisle route? I always just see class 156 units on there now and with 158's coming, I would like to get a pacer on the Tyne Valley line one last time.
Ok, great! Any idea what services they work (I don't know this area well)?Unless a disaster happens between now and then, it's pretty much certain there'll be 142s in Sheffield
I believe they do a fair amount of the Leeds stoppers (both routes), also Adwick stoppers (but these diagrams interwork with Hull and Bridlington stoppers, which also turn up 158s, Sprinters, or 144s). If you're there on a Saturday, the Cleethorpes via Retford often turns up a 142. They can turn up on the Huddersfield stopper, but these should be 3-car 144s. Basically, they're sure to turn up somewhere, but it isn't 100% set in stone on what exactly. It is worth remembering that 2 car 144s can and do turn up where 142s could.Ok, great! Probably the best bet if you want to ride some in the Sheffield area, depending on your plans of course, might be to get a South Yorkshire day ticket (used to be a Travelmaster, I'm not sure what they call it these days) so you're covered whichever way you end up going (as far as the boundaries of course!).
