Just got thrown off the 1255 Inverness to Edinburgh which terminated at Aviemore after being held outside the station for 30 mins. Loud alarms coming from 43148 at the front. If anything has made me doubt the viability of HSTs this is it .

Could it have been a brake fire or something just smouldering maybe?

No, there was no fire or smouldering. There was another fault with the powercar and the train has gone empty to Inverness for depot attention.

Question: has anyone sampled the new hot options on the refurbed HST? Any opinions? Has there always been enough hot food/soup for those in first class?

The refurb set was back out today, working the 15:30 Edinburgh-Aberdeen earlier with 43033 and 43169.

No, this is the 1707 arrival from Edinburgh - diagrammed to work 1725 Inverness - Glasgow QS.

A few have indeed gone to Craigy for TPM but I was told they’re being charged handsomely for it and getting a slot at an appropriate time is proving challenging, hency why Shields is the go-to option. Incidentally one of the sets returning from Shields to Haymarket before Christmas was wrong routed at Bellgrove and ended up as the first HST ever at Carntyne!

Any reason why it cant go via Bathgate to Haymarket? Route Knowledge??

Post earlier says 43148....

43148 & 43003 (trailing) were in Inverness station tonight, presumably to work the 1725 to Queen St, so I guess the fire bell fault has been fixed. Think it was 43148/003 on the affected set - I saw it lying in the motorail siding in Inverness later on the same day. I had issues with 43148 (nothing major) a while ago on the training train - control cb tripped & shut the engine (& electrics down). 43140 was, I think, the power car that sustained damaged lifeguards heading North from Inver tunnel last Sunday.

Incidentally, as 43003 is, by my reckoning, the 2nd production power car built, I'm thinking it must have been originally part of set 253001 (along with 43002, which looks great running on GWR repainted in it's original livery) - 1st HST 'rake' in 1976. Historic power car, which I've been lucky enough to have a shot of!

I noticed a couple of First Mk3's at Springburn. Is Springburn also involved with the refurb program or are they just stored there.

The power cars won't go to Ely they will either go the Loughborough as you say or Doncaster Wabtec.

I got on the 12:47 ABD-GLQ at Stirling yesterday, HST, and none of the carriages had lights the whole way, pitch dark through Queen Street tunnel, thought it must be getting taken to depot after that but RTT shows it running back to Aberdeen on the next departure. Worst scotrail HST experience yet, apart from the various cancellations I've experienced

Set formed 43133 40210 42035 42033 44011 43147 I’m told.

Yeah route knowledge. The only drivers who sign that route are electric DOO guys from Helensburgh, Yoker, Airdrie, or Bathgate. Neither Edinburgh nor Queen St have the route, and they're only central belt depots that work HSTs.

The power cars (43133/147) are going to Ely by the looks of it..... but only to drop off 40210 and 44011 there, before they head to Brush for overhaul.

Does anyone know when the depot work for HSTs will be completed? As with more sets supposedly 'imminent' then I assume we should start seeing refurbished sets appearing in Inverness and Glasgow Queen St? And of course we should see the first 5-coach sets delivered soon (if Wabtec's claim of delivering all the sets before the end of the year is to be believed...), are ScotRail ready for this? I know there's still work to be completed at Inverness depot for storage of more than one HST; no doubt it would look bad if after complaining about the slow delivery rate, ScotRail aren't actually ready when they do arrive!

Really, worst? I've had many Scotrail HSTs in the last few days and the lighting of them is really horrible. On Great Western the lights were usually at the dim setting with 50% of them on but all the lights have been on in all the Scotrail sets I've done and it's so bright, particularly after dark. Why they don't have them in dim mode I don't know as it's a much nicer environment.

Even in dim mode the lights on the FGW HSTs were pretty excessive (and that's from someone that doesn't normally complain about lighting at all), so goodness knows what it must be like with them all on.

Agreed there. Going from Scotrail HSTs with full lighting to an LNER one was a huge improvement, not only in lighting but also in seat comfort and general feel of the train.

There is a light controller switch in the vestibule, if you got really annoyed you ask the passengers in the Coach and say is it too bright and use the switch. But obviously the guard could be a right pain about you medaling with things.

I know but I don't think it's a very good idea to go fiddling with the train in case I break something . I'm sure there's a reason all the lights are on, whether that's Scotrail policy or whatever and I don't want to be kicked off the train or anything .
