I see a local MSP is prattling on about the lack of toilets again, even claiming it should be a legal requirement. Whilst they are a good thing to have what is the big deal? Thousands of people manage to travel between Inverclyde and Glasgow by car, taxi and the bus, none of which have toilets, yet when it comes to the train its somehow a breach of human rights? And how on earth did people survive for 40 years of the 303s?

I do hope however that they preserve a (314) unit and put it on display in a mainstream museum in Glasgow.

Thinking outside the box here, it would be a perfect addition to the collection at the Kelvingrove ! :)

Dinosaur bones, stuffed owls, 314, military medals and organ recitals.

Last few nights on the 2035 to Neilston have been 314 runs. 209 tonight, 207 Monday night. Both 2045 Newton departures following at platform nine have been 202 (Mon) and 216 (Wed). Just like the good old days! Agree with the point above. I do wonder why the seating was never upgraded to include a headrest like the 313s. Much of the remaining fleet is looking fairly tired now, especially the carmine and cream units. Alas, I do wonder when the last runs will be.

Ps Often services with toilets - Argyle Line/Queen Street Low Level - are 'Out of Service' for the entire journey.

I can’t help but think the 314s were always neglected throughout the years. In a way they were like the 320s - they were pretty basic inside without toilets, were only capable of 75mph. However the 320s were fully refurbished and received toilets. They were upped to 90mph. Over the years the 314s remained basic without any refurb work until about 2012 which was their first major overhaul.

They have been great units aside from that but in comparison to the 380s and 385s there’s no comparison. Times have changed, it’s time to move on. I do hope however that they preserve a unit and put it on display in a mainstream museum in Glasgow.

I guess part of the reason the 314s seem to have attracted some shedding of tears as they see out the final months is precisely because they’re just a simple unglamorous train which has dutifully done its job reliably and safely for 40 years.

Despite being basic, the seating is still more comfortable than an ironing board!

Have said it before. The PEP derivatives are the modern day SUB's , unglamorous, but excellent at there job and reliable

I wish there were pictures of 314212 heading for scrap. Would be interesting to see it go by road.

Theres a few scattered over Facebook.

There’s a photo of a part-scrapped 315 driving car in this month’s Railway Magazine. Doesn’t take too much imagination to picture what a 314 would look like in similar state, although the picture should come with a health warning - it’s pretty grim viewing!

I've got chance for a run to Glasgow on Monday for hopefully a last run on a 314. Does anyone know of a good bet for any 314 departures from Glasgow around 1400-1500 please?

Should be a few on the go: probably most definitely on the Paisley Canal runs, maybe the Inverclyde routes and the Circle/Newton/Neilston may have a few services. Hope you manage to bag a few!

Thanks, managed a couple of 314s..203 from newton and 208 on a Neilston. Also saw 207 on a paisley canal, 205 and 215 paired on a circular and another pair on 1715 ex Glasgow. Can't see them holding on for long enough for me to get another ride on one. Very basic units and after heading back on a 380 you realise just how old fashioned they are inside but always enjoyed a ride so nice to get a last run.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
While I was travelling to and from a medical appointment at Williamwood today, I did not see any Class 314s at all (the 13:05 ex Glasgow Central - Neilston, and 15:08 ex Neilston - Glasgow Central). Both directions I had a 4 coach 380.

The other trains I have seen today on this route seem to be 380s, although I did spot a 320 at Mount Florida on the way back to Glasgow.

No move in from Yoker to Eastfield, so unless 37 takes one of stored units from Shields to Glasgow Works
It will be a VSTP schedule input overnight; 314213 being hauled from Yoker via Central LL, Carmyle, Coatbridge and Stepps, planning for a 1430 departure.

Yeah , the 380 you feel like a proper train with a decent window view !

Could you have a preserved PEP made of carriages from each class?

Would Boness be interested in one? Could haul it with their 303.

??? . Is Knightswood S the junction at Anniesland for the chord through Kelvindale?
I can't see why the route through QSLL should be unavailable. The sleeper has used that since the days it was a 37 haulage.

I think it's to do with the sub-class of 37 that was used. Seemingly too heavy.

Can you not just accept what I’m telling you as someone who is paid to know this stuff? In any case, the route is RA5 and 37/7s are RA7 on account of the extra ballast weights which were fitted when they were refurbished; here’s a copy of the Route Clearance table from the Sectional Appendix with the restriction helpfully highlighted in yellow. You’ll note that class 37/4 (which are RA5) as previously used by the sleeper are permitted. The booked route for the Fort William sleeper was via Westerton and the E&G right up until the 37/4s finished on it but they have run via Queen Street LL on diversions, railtours and the West Highland Explorer trains.

This is all very off topic anyway.
