Nice one, that’s a lovely picture from a train.

Thank you for your post about the 68 being on the front today, that helped me get my pictures at York, so greatly appreciated.

That's quite alright!

I was expecting the DVT/DBSO/whatever it's called to be leading this time so I thought I'd let people know as that's the 'interesting' end!

One of the new TPE sets (no idea what flavor) came through Oxford Road at some speed around 16:20 yesterday. Looked terrific, like a silver missile.

These are going to be great for TPEs image.

Just walked past whitworth street by oxford road station 20 minutes ago. I saw another mark 5 going over the rail bridge. I do believe it had passengers on board. The only one I think it could have been is the 0527 from victoria to newc/middlesbrough but if that is the case i will be surprised... I have just finished a busy night shift but I'm sure i saw people in the carraiges

68025 was with set TP09 again on the Manchester Int. Depot - Carlisle - Crewe - Manchester Int. Depot circuit again today. I captured it at Gatley running slightly late after been held at Heald Green South for passenger workings to pass.

Surely by now set 9 must be approaching the end of it's fault free running now?

You would have thought that this set TP09 would have had it's steps fitted by now. Not a big job i'm sure but something else to be done.
Are we getting nearer to that first ever Class 68 + Mk5a set passenger run?

May timetable hopefully, believe it's still 2 sets initially planned.

I believe some Mk5 courses are due to start in March for the 68 link, if this is the case and it runs smoothly there should be enough crew trained for the two 68 diagrams to run from May.

Depending on how many sets are available, getting crews trained up would presumably take precedence over entry to passenger service - I would think at least 2 sets would be required for training, one each side of the Pennines. Of course once a core of crew have been trained to operate the basic service with 2 sets, other crews could undertake some of their training on the service trains operated, if that is allowed.

More Nova 3 fun over the Pennines booked for this week:
22:27 Man Air-York (Monday to Friday)
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K00717/2019/02/11/advanced
and
03:03 York-Man Air (Tuesday to Saturday)
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K00715/2019/02/12/advanced

Interestingly, both are scheduled to call at Garforth and Cross Gates, the last time I can remember a loco hauled train being booked to stop at Garforth was in the late 1980s (a SuO York Carlile train).

Tuesday there’s an 00:53 York to Man Vic
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K00737/2019/02/12/advanced
‘100mph DMU’ but Freightliner operated.

There was a loco swap on Friday so it should be 68032 with its shiny new “Destroyer” nameplates on the night runs

Thanks.

Is one set close to reaching its required fault-free mileage now? (barring complications)

2 sets are nearly ready for handover, possibly end of Feb, barring any disasters. Crew training to start after that, then they will enter service in May if all goes well.

Wow, who's been doing the FFR on another set? We have only done and continue to do set 9 not started any other set.

If set 9 passes how much mileage would the next one need (given that it is running over a thousand miles a week even with the Crewe turnbacks)?

It might be easily achievable.

Which just goes to show that even by the time the 'fault' was found in November, they were already well behind for apparent December 2018 introduction.
