Applied although I'm currently in another GTR talent pool waiting on a start date. Goodluck to all the applicants!
I'm in the same boat as you have you or anyone else spoken to HR recently to see if it's ok to have two applications ongoing within the same company (GTR as a whole) for the same position?

How long have you guys been waiting in the pool? I have heard of some waiting for a date for a couple of years. Hopefully hasn't been thay long. I've heard rumours the list for brighton is a long one but must be pushing through them by now. At least you've passed the tests and are awaiting a position

I applied in March, assessments in June, interviews in August and now just waiting for medical and start date. Who knows how long the wait will be.

That shouldn't be a problem.

I received my thanks but no thanks email today after applying last week. Ive been in a talentnpool for great northern since may 2018. Was surprised at the quick response. I admitted in my application that I was currently awaiting a position in said pool so no surprise that they rejected me on this occasion. Hopefully not to much longer waiting.

That's a shame and certainly a quick response. At least you're in the waiting game although I can imagine it being a tedious wait. Maybe it was location that took you out the running? It did say metro and coastal but searching through indeed in just specified coastal? Maybe this is a regular occurrence on external sites but did catch my eye.

Hopefully you'll start soon enough though

I applied almost as soon as it was posted on the thursday, I failed my D.M.I in 2017 but been waiting for another opportunity. Im not expecting a quick response as I was waiting alot during the process last time but im hoping ill be able to go in at the D.M.I stage. They move the goal posts as they wish.

I also received the said generic rejection email. I guess it's probably down to the fact that we are already in talent pools. Fingers crossed we hear something soon.

Are these the rejection emails for the latest southern Trainee Train Driver jobs, the ones advertised and closed on like 6 feb? I’ve not heard yet.

I now know of two candidates, passed up to and including MMI with other TOCs, had applied this position and in last 24 hrs have received "Thanks but no Thanks " email.

We always assumed that they'd give them an interview, having passed to enhanced level all the tests and MMI, but no. Can only guess how GTR are sifting their candidates, but my impression of them over the years is that they do seem to actively try to get rid of candidates.

After about 20 months in the talent pool I got told today Thameslink Ashford don't need any new trainees for a very long time. Gutted to get right to the end and not have an offer.

I feel your pain. Get as many applications into as many different TOCs as possible is my best advice to you

It's clear they've set the criteria for this vacancy to automatically decline anyone ticking the boxes indicating if they've applied in the last 6 months or if they're already in progress of becoming a driver

I think this may be true. I had an email yesterday "Thanks but no thanks". I feel really gutted for the Ashford lot waiting all that time for nothing! It sacred me for the position I'm in right now. To everyone waiting in a talent pool keep everything crossed and pray we all get through.

I was only told about Ashford because I called recruitment. We haven't been sent an email or anything confirming but I'm just going to move on now.

Like someone said already just keep looking for others. Maybe they might change their minds and decide they do need more drivers.

Yes or they are checking for applications within the other GTR companies. I got the rejection email on Thursday afternoon and I've already done all the assessments

Unfortunately it's still early days yet, usually around a few weeks after the closing people start hearing. It is tedious this waiting game though. Would be awesome for a June start though!!!

You have been rejected on the application stage? The person I know, that got rejected yesterday, emailed HR and got a very lengthy reply as to why these applications are rejected. One of the points that alarmed me was "although you may have passed these stages in the past, there is no guarantee you will again".

Surely it's a safe bet to take on someone to DMI stage that has passed assessments as it reduces cost with the assessment days? Sorry to hear your news though.

yeah passed all physcometrics Mmi but failed DMI with thameslink Brighton to Bedford about a year ago, yet failed at the application stage. Thanks bud. Just really disheartening, I thought that was the whole point of them storing results on the national database. What’s really annoying is this isn’t the first time this has happened since failing DMI I have failed at application stage before. Really confused as to where I go next.

This is a problem with privatisation

If you have passed everything it would make sense for you to be considered with southeastern or other depot a depending on your home location? Years ago I went straight to interview without being sifted off an email as id passed everything with another TOC

This whole trainee driver recruitment process is just torturous, the stories I'm seeing and the people that make it all the way to the DMI and still don't succeed is so disheartening!

It is tortuous I agree but people are recruited so you have to remain optimistic. It is very easy to lose confidence and start thinking 'Did I do as well as I thought I did? Am I just a number?' You have to keep faith somehow or It risks becoming an obsession or something that will grind you down. I guess you feel like you've done your best but the reward feels unreachable. So it is understandable

I was in two talent pools a few years one internal one external it was the external company that took me on
The more you're in the better

I'd have hoped if you have failed an interview before or the pool ran dry you wouldn't be at a disadvantage applying again

I wonder if someone really messes up in an interview and they are interviewed again and remembered if that sways anything? I guess the chances of being remembered are slim unless you say something ridiculous
.personal circumstances affect performance too

I really can’t belive it Southern is doing that!! Few of my friends had passed all the assessment and been rejected. You think you are nearly there but no!! How disappointing!
